Desertwalk

Time of past OR future Camino
Plan on walking the Camino de Santiago starting
3 April 2018 and compleatimg in 35-40 days
I will be finally starting my Camino from St Jean on the 2nd of April 2018. I understand Napolian trail opens 3/31/18 , understand the opening could be delayed due to weather . What would be recommended for foot wear and outer clothing on Napolian that time of year and what could I expect for weather during My Camino

Blessings

I started 2 April this year. The Napolean route was still closed due to snow. I enjoyed the Valcarlos route. I walked in trail runners. I had the same layers that I had when I walked in Sept/Oct ie. silk thermals, long trousers and shirt, micro fleece, windproof rain gear that included pants and jacket. I also had gloves and a buff. Rarely if ever needed the whole lot at once but I regard it as insurance as the weather can be very changeable at that time of year.
Buen camino, peregrino.

Here are links to some threads that discuss very similar questions. This one focuses on layering of clothes, here's one one boots versus shoes for March, and here's one on footwear for April/May. Have fun sorting through the various opinions :p. Essentially there are two key principles: (1) wear light layers to accommodate all possible weather conditions, and (2) wear the shoes or boots you find most comfortable for all-day walks and be sure they have a bit of extra room.

No politics, but the climate is...ah...well...has become unpredictable. I love early April on the Camino, you will be leaving right after Easter, watching Spring unfold, the holiday caminantes will mostly left back for home, after Route Napoléon mornings should be brisk say 5-7C gets you off to a quick start afternoons up to around 15C - pleasant walking. You will witness lots of funny sticks alongside the Camino, sticks which will slowly sprout leaves and height and develop into true and real vineyards. Fields of winter wheat and barley. Abundant wildflowers watch for the primroses, watch but don't touch-they are protected in Spain, villages with wonderful public and private gardens with mixtures of bulb flowers and later wisteria, wild foxgloves, buttercups, entire hills of blue lobelia, what the Spanish call pimpinela espinosa we in Israel call calandia after the Palestinian Arabic for candle since the flowers almost glow in the sunrise/sunset, also delicate lockspurs and many of the wild orchid family. Rain? There have been years I have walked under blue skies some fog or mist in the morning adding atmosphere, there have also been years when it seemed "the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened" one can never tell but it's a wonderful time to walk!!
