Camino Portuguese in end of December/January

I stayed at Casa da Fernanda from 24h of December 2015 till 8th of January 2016
And now and then pilgrims were passing by and sometimes staying at Fernanda's and they all came from Porto so they must have been somewhere on their way. All went on to Ponte de Lima so I assume the albergue there was opened. Some even stayed at Christmas eve like a Brazilean couple and at new years eve a German prilgrim joined us . So I don't think you will face many closed doors.

Olá, if you walk along the coast your first stay could be at the ORBITUR campsite in Angeiras. Two hours ago I phoned to my girls in Angeiras. They welcome pilgrims all year round. With your credential you´ll get the pilgrim´s fare for a nice bungalow. Angeiras is half way from Porto to Rates if you want to do the Caminho da Costa.

HI Jenny. I am also thinking of doing the Camino from Lisbon at the end of December for a week. Have you found out much for info on open Albergues? Casa Fernanda is highly recommended. It is a donativo.

Casa Fernanda is a great place to stay but as I read and understand you come from Lisbon ,it is a long walk... about 450 kms away from there Andrea In a week ???!!Casa Fernanda is situated about 80 kms north of Porto between Barcelos and Ponte de Lima in the village of Vitorino de Piães.

HI Albert. Ye, that would be impossible. I think I have made a bit of a mistake. I have booked return flights to Lisbon on the 29th of December to the 6th of Jan. I am not fussy about which part I will do. I would like to start in Lisbon but I am not sure if any of the Albergues are open. Do you have any idea if they are? I am also a solo traveler and I have heard that the signage isn't great in Portugal. Should I just take a train to Porto and start from there? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The part from Lisbon is great-my wife and I walked from there in 2013.
last year we walked from Porto but the coatal part.
This year we did not walk but were hospitaleiros at casa Fernanda.
The Lisbon to Pirto is a nice part, especially from Santarèm so you could take the commutertrain from Lisbon to Santarèm and start from there and see nice places like Tomar with its Templars Convent.

The part from Porto is more "socialised". You will meet more pilgrims and you see a nice part of Portugal.
So my suggestion was. Start in Porto and walk via Barcelos en stay at Fernanda , walk the last part to Ponte de Lima and returm back to Lisbon by train to catch your flight.
A bit of a puzzle but you see a nice part of Partugal and the Portuguese caminho.

There is a fast train from Lisbon to Porto.

I've just walked from Porto. In SdC right now. Gronze.com gives very good information on opening dates on info page for each albergue. No shortage of accommodation the past 12 days. I sense that all xunta / municipal albergues stay open all year. A few list a day or so around Christmas when they close. Bom caminho.
