Camping, yet again...

Hello,

I'm not planning on camping every night or anything like that. But I think I would like to spend one or two nights outside. I know that camping seems to be frowned upon on here, but if you had to pick the best place to camp out for a night, where would it be?

Anywhere, where the stars are going to be out all night, therefore no rain & no weight of tent

I think that you are misinterpreting the threads on camping. The negative comments are on camping without following the wishes of our hosts, the Spanish. Virtually all of us love camping! Two important issues are 1) campgrounds are nearly as expensive as albergues, and 2) carrying a tent for 33 days to use it on two days adds a lot of weight to your pack (you probably will want a sleeping mat, too).

Two important issues are 1) campgrounds are nearly as expensive as albergues, and 2) carrying a tent for 33 days to use it on two days adds a lot of weight to your pack (you probably will want a sleeping mat, too).

Well, I certainly don't want to camp anywhere it is not allowed. Also, it would not be every night, maybe just one or two times. I won't be bringing a tent along. I'm slept on hard, lumpy ground before, with just a blanket. Maybe I'm a bit sick in the head, but I do enjoy that sort of thing. And again, this would not be a regular thing, just something I do 1 or 2 nights out of the 30+ I'll be on the Camino.

I've a feeling I read somewhere that you can camp by the albergue in San Bol between Hornillos and Hontanas. Check that out, because if correct it would be an amazing place. That stretch is one of my favourites of the whole Camino Frances, and must be beautiful on a clear starry night.
