Is easy to understand why, nothing better than walk and not having to worry about the daily life and routine at home, lots of time to be oneself. I find walking relaxing. Is something I do at home for enjoyment and therapy after a hard or stressful week at the office, nothing better than walk the trails. Some people drink I walk... Uhmmm Drinking some wine after walking is not so bad either...

I will be doing my first Camino (Frances) in September 2016 and I have been looking at the Portuguese way as well which appears very inviting.

Then we have at least two things in common. My principal home is located in a countryside of greenbelts on rolling hills with a network of roads and lanes all around -- I start my daily walks by stepping off my front porch onto my driveway and have choices on how far I go by choosing a particular routing in the network. As for Spanish, I am a university certified translator from San Diego State U. 1998. Regarding the W4F site, the daily marathon and half-marathon badges as well as the weekly distance badges, stage badges and trail completion badges may also be of interest. Hi Sim. Yes, I think I will. This time of the year the trails around home still really good for walking but they will be full of snow before long so I don't do much hiking in he winter, however, I ski a lot.

Actually Spanish was easy for me, as I was born in Chile a Spanish speaking country.
SimLin, glad you are getting started on W4F. Hope it helps you with training -- I found that it helped me increase daily distances. On starting up the CF virtually on the same day you begin it in reality, you have the flexibility to change from one trail to another at any time so that should not be a problem for you. Good evening SimLin, sorry to hear about your Plantar Fasciitis -- hope all goes well with your recovery. That reminds me of the serious case of shin splints I had in May 2014 where I had to be off my feet for three weeks. It was not pleasant but all turned out well and I learned how to walk again, this time without over pronating. Heal well and Buen Camino.Thank you...however, sadly, I might of signed up early in the excitement I forgot I am on "walking" rest because of Plantar Fasciitis inflammation in my left foot - I cannot begin to express how frustrating this is and yet I do not want any further injury so it will a slow pace for my virtual trail

Hi Christina ,your first Camino is so special and the most challenging ,for that reason i would try the Camino Francis first .Its really beautiful ,the Porto way is also beautiful but i found it a bit harder because of the mountains and a lot less pilgrims travel this one so not so much socialising at night .The best part of a camino for me is the amazing people you meet along the way and sharing a meal and a glass of wine at the end of a days walking is just wonderful .Hi Kerry

Yes, my plans are to start the Frances in September. I agree, the evening meals and conversation is appealing. Meeting other pilgrims from different part of the world should be fun.

(Chuckles) Christian, now that you mention it, why don't we avoid Spanglish? My experiences with it have taken conversations in some really negative directions. I don't think any of my comments or words in the two messages to Lachance were Spanglish. I try to avoid it like the plague and keep my terms and words in conformity with the dictionary of the Spanish Royal Academy or in accordance with widely recognized use in international Castilian. For example, when I lived in Southern California, I encountered some pretty incoherent language in the streets around the Los Angeles area with words like "lonchear" for having lunch (replacing almorzar) or "troque" for truck (replacing camion), and many others. My preference is not to go there.

Thanks for your understanding. Yes, languages do move in that direction, particularly under the force of another more dominant language. Generally speaking, my impression is that Spanish tends to change substantially slower than English with the regulation by the Spanish Royal Academy (RAE). On the other hand, the publishers of the Oxford English Dictionary tend to be quicker to track what is actually in use. RAE strives for unity among all the different Spanish speaking countries and controls what is included in its dictionary.
I have been in many South American countries and noticed much of the different influences in the language according to the immigration they had over time after the Spanish who happened to come from Castilla. For instance in Argentina they had a large number of Italians that immigrated there, this shows in the everyday usage of the language. Chile on the other hand had very little immigration, mostly due to their natural borders such as the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. Hence the language did not evolve as much. Places like Venezuela and Colombia are quite interesting this way. I also lived in Spain, a small country with several fully developed languages. Anyhow, I would have prefer that we all had a common language. Esperanto come to mind.
