As I'm doing the camino Primitivo this time around, I will not be going to the Cruz de hierro. I wonder if there is something similar in the Primitivo ?? should I bring a stone from home?
If you have a few extra days and can start your Camino in Leon instead of Oviedo, the Camino del Salvador (from Leon to Oviedo) has a cross at the highest point of the spectacular mountain pass between Leon and Asturias. It was lovingly crafted and placed there by Ender, the guardian of the Salvador. There are links to photos on this thread:
The camino frances goes east to west through Leon. In Leon, you can turn north and walk the Salvador, which is 120 kms with a lot of mountain beauty. It takes you right into Oviedo, where you can start the Primitivo.
There is a great guide in English on the Camino del Salvador, written by the same Ender who has made this camino so accessible to people with no mountaineering skills. It's here, and has a lot of explanatory pictures.
I think you need at least 4 days, but many people take 5 or 6. Gunnar is walking it now, and a couple of other forum members are going soon, so keep an eye out for their reports.
Do you need a cross? Pilgrims leave rocks on thousands of posts and other rocks. There are regular crosses on all the routes, so you could choose one of them.
I have been trying to find a way to avoid the circus during the last stages of Frances. In two hours you can take the Lugo - Ourense train and walk the last stages on the Plata. Is it a good idea...

I found a link to this place in an old thread, but can't find it on WisePilgrim, the Gronze map or if I search by address. Can someone tell me...
Hi all
Heading out for a meal tonight and Pilgrim mass before starting the Primitivo tomorrow. Any recommendations on where to get a great meal in Oviedo?
