Cycling the Camino

I am cycling the Camino later in September. When booking flights, it sounds like since the increase in the price of oil, it will cost me about $450 each way to get my bike there. Seems like it would make more sense to purchase a bike and then donate it to charity when I am done. Any suggestions/ideas about this? Renting may also be an option. Also, if I am to start in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, is it better to fly into Madrid or Paris?

Thanks for any insights.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi and welcome to the forum myrnapark,

One alternative could be to rent a bike from this company:
http://www.tournride.com

.. they are in Santiago and will ship the bike to anywhere in Spain. Then you just bike it back.

Greetings from Santiago de Compostela,
Ivar

I have been to the site, but I don't read Spanish!! I will send them an email and see if they respond in English. Thanks for the lead, Ivar. Do you live in Spain, given your signature??

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Yes, I live in Santiago and I have talked to the guy that runs Tour-n-Ride. He speaks broken English, but enough that I think you will get a reply in English if you write him.

If not, let me know and I can help you out.

Saludos,
Ivar
