Deba to Ziortza distance

I’m planning on less than great weather at least my first week on the Norte starting March 1. Because open less expensive municipal Albergue accommodation is not as frequent until Easter I’ll walk the “standard” stages (Gronze) to make sure I have a place to sleep. I want to stay in Ziortza at the monastery which is about 6 km past Markina making it a ? 30 km from Deba. It’s marked as 4* demanding Deba to Markina so wondering if I’ll have any legs left to do 6 km more to Ziortza . Any advice about Deba to Ziortza ?

The climb from Markina to Ziortza is not particularly demanding, that is how much I can remember. I stayed in Izarbide albergue, past Deba, a gorgeous place but not cheap, food is expensive and awful, but the location is stunning. The stage between Deba and Marking is demanding because there is not a lot in between, only a bar about 6 km past Deba and a great, friendly, gorgeous food bar in Olatz, ideal for a stop and a good pintxo indeed!

I stayed in Izarbide albergue, past Deba, a gorgeous place but not cheap, food is expensive and awful, but the location is stunning. Thanks Amancio, I contacted the Izaribe albergue and it’s open but the owner said Zarautz to Izaribe is very demanding especially Deba to Izaribe. Unfortunately pushing past Zarautz to Getaria (get past Deba) is not possible as accommodation in a Getaria is expensive so early in March. Ok I’ll stay in Deba and if exhausted when I get to Markina maybe taxi it to Ziortza as I really want to,experience the monastery and dinner w the monks.

call kanpaia albergue in getaria, they might just open. on gronze it says they are open march - october.
or, a bit further on in askizu is a casa rural with pilgrim rates. I couldn't find opening dates, though.

the climb from deba to izaribe is indeed tough. the views from the albergue are lovely and there were a microwave and a fridge in 2016, so you can potentially 'cook' something.

the stage from markina to ziortza is lovely. you can skip the climb from iruzubieta by staying on the road. the climb to the monastery is along a fine (party restored) medieval road.

Thanks kanpai indeed confirmed they will be closed still. I will try to make it to Ziortza then have a short follow8ng day to Gernika.
