4-18 September "2018" assisting a disabled friend
I will be helping a disabled Christian friend to reach her dream of doing the Camino 4-18 September 2018 in whatever way possible. Madrid to Santiago. She is double my weight and in a wheelchair. I am looking for some Jewish contacts to spend Rosh Hashanna or Yom Kippur with. I am on Ashkenazi program but in a Sephardi congregation in Johannesburg. Do not speak Spanish. And any ideas on how to make her dream come true (in terms of ways of transport)? We are both female.

The only congregation I know of in northern Spain is on the Primitivo, in Oviedo (Comunidad Israelita Principado de Asturias, Plaza del Fontan 11-bajo, 34 985205337), There are five in Madrid itself- www.mavensearch.com/synagogues/C3435Y41790RX. Several places on the Camino Francese once had thriving Jewish communities (Sahagun, Leon, Burgos, Estella) but no longer do-- some historical background can be found here (www.redjuderias.org/).

PS trying to find more.... such as perhaps an informal group of Jews in SdC, I had no results-- although a Jewish dating site tells me that there are eligible singles there!! But frequenters of this thread might be interested in this article on Tarta de Santiago, which suggests that it has its origin in an Andalusian Passover cake (http://www.bokadulse.com/home/2017/3/9/converso-cake).
