Drain plug size

Time of past OR future Camino
May 2016
Hello everyone. Someone suggested bringing a drain plug to prevent water from flowing down the sink while you wash. Can anyone confirm the diameter of the hole?

Drain holes are all different sizes. Bandanna worked well enough for me, and one size fit all. I personally try to make all of my gear do double or triple duty--no single use items (like a drain plug) unless they are indispensable (sun hat, sleeping bag liner, etc.).

Buen Camino,

I never carried one and never needed one. Most of the albergues had plastic wash bins you fill up at the laundry sinks.
and to any prospective pilgrims out there...please don't take a long time washing clothes. There are others waiting for the sinks so they can finish their routine pilgrim chores before napping, eating, drinking or any combination of that. ;)

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Outdoor stores usually sell "universal" sink plugs which are meant to fit any sized drain hole. Some work and some don't! I took one of these and only used it a few times, but it did work fine. Others I have tried in the past have not worked well - I think this one works because it is soft and so molds to the shape of the sink around the hole. Definitely not an essential item as others have said, but a couple of times when we stayed in private rooms there was a bath tub with no plug. And at several places we stayed there was a sink for washing clothes with no plug (and no basins). It was very light and just slipped down the side of a pocket in my pack, didn't take up any space. I carried it in a little zip-lock bag. Probably fits into the current thread about "luxury items" - non-essential but oh it was soooo worth it for soaking away those aches and pains! A sock would probably have done as well though.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

A square of rubber to act as a drain stop = One of the very few items I brought and never used.

A Buff would work as well. I usually use a liner sock. It is being washed anyway.

Hope this helps.

Our circular piece of rubber inner tube has been very useful many times. It is so much quicker and easier to wash things when the water stays in the sink, and doesn't waste water (hot or cold). Diameter 3"/8cm as in post #2 above. We would not travel without it. :)
