For those heading out on Camino shortly, sharing this info from LifeHacker regarding E-Sim cards
I didn't realize that the cards could be purchased in advance of arriving in Spain.
(Admins - if this isn't permitted, my apologies and understand if deleted.)

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I use Airalo every time I go to any country where my data plan doesn’t transfer. It will only activate when it connects to an applicable tower in country. The data is cheap and plentiful.

I've started using Airlo as well. Am happy with it but am wondering about using it while on Camino given that it does not allow in-country calling. I called ahead for accommodation a number of times in busy sections of the Camino Frances in 2022. Am planning to walk the Portuguesa in /24 and the Le Puy in /25.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

You can use an app like Skype or Viber to make calls using your data plan. I use Viber, and the calls are only 2¢ a minute

Most accommodation is on WhatsApp and you can call from there via data

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Hey! I just want to say thank you for this post! I’ve been using the AloSIM for a couple days now in both Germany and France and so far it’s been fantastic! Looking forward to the same when I start my camino next week! Thank you!! 🙏

YES! I picked one up about a month ago for my trip, then put an alarm on my phone to tell me to activate it right before my flight leaves the U.S.
