About to do my 1st Camino The French Way (April-May 2016)
Hi,

I'm new to this forum and walking my first Camino Frances end April from SJPDP, just under three months now ! I am flying from Australia and flights are very comparable to either Madrid or Paris. I will be travelling for a few weeks afterwards to Crete (from Madrid) and wondering the best option for storing my excess luggage I won't be taking on the walk.

Has anyone ever left luggage at Madrid airport ? If this is a safe option it would save the need to organise a courier from Pamplona or SJPDP to Santiago. Alternatively the best choice seems to be from Pamplona via mail and storing with Ivar who runs this site ? What are people's experience with using the Express Bourricot
Courier service from SJPDP to Santiago ?

All this will help me decide which is the best entry point to Europe from Oz. Thanks.

Katie

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi, Katie,

I haven't used any of these services but here are a few threads to get you started:

https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/lockers-at-madrid-airport.14745/#post-101622

I was surprised to see that the transport and storage cost of Express Bouricot from SJPP is 70 E for a 20 k bag. Seems reasonable, I would have expected it to be much more.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
Thanks both peregrina2000 and falcon269, the links are excellent. Am favouring flying into Madrid, think it will feel more like a pilgrim experience right from the beginning.
Does the luggage lockup at Charmartin station have a good reputation and is there a link to cost somewhere ?
Alternatively mailing to Ivar in Santiago, is there any difference from doing this from Madrid versus Pamplona ?

Thanks again guys,
Katie

Hi, Katie,
According to the website, the congisnment at Chamartín is in an "annex" to the main train station, I'm sure it's close and easy to find.

Charges are based on size. Small 3.10 € a day; medium, 3.60 € a day; large, 5.20 € a day. But I don't see any definition of small, medium or large!

The consigna is open every day from 7 am till 11 pm, so you shouldn't have any problem in terms of timing.

Here's the page in Spanish: http://www.adif.es/es_ES/infraestructuras/estaciones/17000/servicios_000012.shtml

I used Express Bourricot (http://www.expressbourricot.com/en/luggage-transport/) for transporting my bike box (including extra items stored inside the box) from SJPDP to Santiago and it worked perfectly...just make sure that there is a shipping date between your departure from SJPDP and expected arrival in Santiago...Express Bourricot is a well established and trusted Pilgrim support company with secure storage in both SJPDP and Santiago.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
