Friends of Bill - Any Great AA Meetings Along the Way?

I leave on 9-9-2023 from SJPDP to someplace on the Atlantic Ocean. I'd love to participate in some AA Meetings along the way as it's a huge part of my spiritual life. I have some AA apps but wonder if anyone has any great recommendations? If you would like to stay anonymous, I understand! Buen Camino!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hi, @silviasmart, and a very warm welcome to the forum!

If you go to the search function and type in “friends of bill” and then check the box “search titles only”, that will take you to all threads with those words in title, you will find a bunch of older threads that will probably contain some good information for you.

Here’s that list, just to make it a bit easier for a new member, in case you are still finding your way around the forum.

And for those who might want to remain anonymous, you can contact @silviasmart directly via PM.

Here is a link for English-language meetings (https://www.aaspain.org/meetings/default.htm). The loners' list has some locations for the del Norte and de la Plata (https://www.aaspain.org/meetings/loners_list.html) As well, I have spoken with FoB who have told me that attending Spanish-language meetings has been very helpful for them-- vibe, I was told, is a universal language. This site (https://www.alcoholicos-anonimos.org/v_portal/inc/muestra_datos_centros.asp) will give you a province-by-province listing, should that approach suit the enquirer.

Several years ago, I was in PM contact with a forum member who was an AA member. She successfully walked the camino without incident and without feeling pressured to drink. She made the decision early on to be open about being an AA member with the people she walked with. For her, that was a source of a lot of support from other people on the Camino, even though she did not meet any other AA members. I am sure that’s a very difficult and very personal decision, but it is something to think about before you set out. It is true that wine is much more a part of “regular mealtime” than many of us are used to, and I assume that adds a bit more pressure.

Wishing you a very successful camino.

Thank you for your support! I feel it! It's gonna be awesome! Five days and counting! xo
Hi, @silviasmart,

I hunted for this thread because of a recent question about Friends of Bill. And I realized we had never heard from you about how things went on your camino. If you care to share, let us know. I’m sure others would be very interested to hear of your personal experience.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Why, thank you, Laurie! Oh my gosh! What an amazing thing! I LOVED my Camino. I was unable to find meetings in towns and cities that were happening as I traveled through so I didn’t have that experience. That said, the Camino helped me work through some things I’ve been focusing on in my ongoing step work so it was all good! It was impressive how much wine was flowing though, and how much folks talked about it. I was so grateful to be sober and made some sober friends along the way. It was absolutely an amazing Camino! Thank you again for asking!! Buen Camino and Happy New Year!
