Has anyone gone "Jack Reacher"?

Hola. There is a fictional character, Jack Reacher - American silent hero type - who travels America righting wrongs (in a particularly violent way) and travels and lives only in the clothes he stands up in. When his clothes get dirty he goes into a shop, buys a new set, dumps the old ones and walks away.

Now - I must admit I have wondered about how he copes without a raincoat, toothbrush and toothpaste, razor, water for hot days, a sweater if it gets cold, rain/sun hat, handkerchief, pocket knife, and so on - although he does seem to stay in hotels and motels, and travels by bus .. but I was wondering ... well, there was "Peace Pilgrim" who walked thousands of miles in America without a pack or bedding, just the clothes she wore - though she did eventually have a smock with lots of pockets - gone now, that good sweet woman ...

... so, ... has anyone done the Camino "Jack Reacher"? Or maybe just a teeny weeny pack for carrying water and a toothbrush, no bedding and buying replacement clothes as they go? Now THERE would be a light backpack!

Being someone who does not enjoy shopping, I much prefer to wear one set of clothes and carry a second set, and wash them when dirty rather than go shopping. Seems to me this is a lighter way to walk on earth too. Besides, I *like* the feel of a pack on my back, and I take seriously the responsibility to have food and water available especially as I walk with children.

No, Reacher does carry a toothbrush. IIRC it is the kind that has a brush that is stored in the handle.

I was brought up in Ireland in the 50's and 60's and the thought of discarding clothes because they are dirty does not sit well with me. I hate the waste of the modern first world, especialy food waste.
On a lighter note, getting Tom Cruise to play the part of a six foot six tough guy was stretching things a bit.

There is a Portuguese world traveler named Gonçalo Cadilhe that, in one of its books, he explains a way for you to save some weight on your backpack: buy some items in your destination. But he always carries something.

The pro's from what he does, is that in the end of the trip, he donates the clothes that he bought when he reached its destination.

I thought about it when I was doing laundry at 4.5 euros to wash and usually 2 or 3 more to dry. I'm not sure though that buying clothes would be a cheaper option.

It would not be practical ... not many of the towns were large enough to have more than a minimal grocery store. Those located in towns that were big enough have limited hours that usually don't correspond to walking hours.
