HOW TO COMME BACK FROM CONQUES ?

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Sorry I don't know the specifics of how to do this, but I know that people did do it, but with difficulty. Conques is not a place with a lot of public transport connections. I heard people talking about taking a bus in the morning to somewhere and then waiting most of the day for their onward train connection. Other people paid quite a bit for a taxi. However, imo Conques is a magical place and well worth all that trouble!

From the Conques tourist site I got this information which suggests taking a taxi:
Air network
The Rodez-Marcillac airport is 33 km from Conques.
Phone number : 05.65.76.02.00

* Two air links per day between Paris and Rodez
* One air link per day between Lyon and Rodez
* Taxi from the airport to Conques
* Cars for hire

Rail network

The Saint Christophe Vallon station is 20 km from Conques.
Phone number : 05.65.72.71.55
The Rodez station is 38 km from Conques.
Phone number : 08.36.35.35.35
The Viviez station is 30 km from Conques.
Phone number : 05.65.43.12.35

* Several rail links per day between Paris and Rodez
* Several rail links per day between Toulouse and Rodez
* Taxi from the station to Conques
* Transport on request from Saint Christophe and Viviez to Conques for some trains
Phone number : 05.65.72.90.03
* Taxi of Conques

I have just come back from Conques via Rodez Airport and Ryannair (to London). I got a bus at 7.50 am (on a Monday) in Conques. It is normally 7.05 am (as it is the school bus also) but as it was half term, it was later. I asked the driver to drop me off as near as possible to the airport. There was some confusion over this as he thought that Rodez was the nearest point - but it's not! He dropped me off at the junction with the D588 and I walked from there to the airport. If he had dropped me off at the D85 it would have been much closer. But again, a misunderstanding. I walked to Onet-le-Chapeau and then took the first road off to the right about 50m after the village - marked to La Bertrandie. It was a small road through farmland which joined up with the D85 and the motorway. A section on the dual carriageway verge (about 15mins) which was unpleasant, to the airport. I found a minor parallel road at one point.

It was very easy and took me about 2 hours to walk- I am a slow walker. Dropped off around 9.30 and arrived 11.30. I didn't have any other map than the very general map of Rodez from the tourist board so I am sure there is a way of avoiding the motorway. The flight didn't leave til 2.00 and there isn't much at Rodez airport except a drink machine.

Hope this is of help.
