I noticed Iberia express has an early morning flight from Santiago to Madrid. I have no experience with this airline. Do they have quirky rules like Ryan Air?

Hi, Joe,
That's an Iberia subsidiary. It's Iberia's equivalent of American Eagle. I've flown on Iberia Express many times connecting either to Iberia or American in Madrid, and the rules are the same as you would get from them. According to some flight attendants I chatted with a few years ago, Iberia discontinued a lot of routes, fired the pilots and staff, and then created a subsidiary, re-opened the routes, and re-hired them at lower wages.

They do not allow trekking poles on the flight but you can check them.

They also have a reputation for delays. I experienced a couple and locals informed me that it is quite common. ;)

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I flew this past Sept/Oct with them from/to Madrid and they were not trouble at all. Trekking poles, collapsed and in my backpack were no issue.

I have flown them twice from Santiago to Madrid, both times being the later flight in the afternoon.
Never had any problems or extra fees either time and they left as scheduled.

I had no problem wth my poles collapsed in my pack from LAX to Madrid or Madrid to Pamplona. But flying out of Santiago they took them out of my pack and told me to go check them. There wasn't time to get out of line and go back through security so I just left them there.

I do not use poles so they will not be an issue. Thanks to all for sharing your experiences.

Joe
