intro plus few questions-- french route

Hello Everyone,
I am planning to start my walking from Roncesvalles, doing the French route. I don't have a specific time frame but am thinking of June. I will be flying into Madrid (most likely from Poland) and taking a bus from there. Any pointers?
What is the weather like in June? Is the camino too crowded?
Also, what kind of socks would you recommend?
Thanks!

After many years of "thinking" about it, I'm finally "doing" it!
Greetings to all pilgrims!

Good for you Mara! Hope you have a great time. It will be crowded in places. Try to avoid the most popular albergues - those recommended in the guide books - and try leaving mid week rather than over a weekend.
The weather in May can be unpredictable - cold in some places, and sunburned noses in others!
From Madrid you can take a bus or train to Pamplona and then a bus or taxi to Roncesvalles.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Thank You for replies!
Is May a less crowded month? :)
Also, do you know if bancomats in Spain (ATM machines) accept either Star, Interlink or Plus networks?
Which is better: cash or credit card? Or maybe both? :)
Thanks!

The ATM's will accept the cards you mention. You will find that with the exception of hotels and places in larger towns you will not be able to use your credit card very often. Plan on using cash from ATM's for most purchases.

Hi, June will be warm for sure - bring shorts and also rain gear. As for socks, I used smart wool socks and I avoided blisters altogether (thats right, not a single blister in 500 miles of walking)! I would take credit card and an ATM card. You will need cash from time to time...but I used my credit card for dinner and also if I stayed in a hotel.

Check out the other posts in this site for more information. My own site http://www.30daystosantiago.com also has my equipment list as well.

Buen Camino!
