luggage mail to Santiago

My husband and I are planning to start our pilgrimage on August 24/2016. I need to know the best way to ship a package to Santiago so we could have some clothes to change at Santiago.
Also being that this is our first time we need to go the best way to travel to Finisterre. Are there bus transportation? how expensive?

Hi Trudy,
For sending package to Santiago, check the Correos website: http://www.elcaminoconcorreos.com/index_en.php
I read they are not holding the packages for more than 2 weeks (there will be a surcharge for additional days - need to check).
To go to Finisterre or Fisterra there are buses from Santiago. I'm using a search site for all transportation in Spain, which is https://www.rome2rio.com/pt/s/Santiago-de-Compostela/Finisterra
You can also use http://www.monbus.es/es/rutas-puntos-de-venta/465/viajar-fisterra-santiago-de-compostela/
This are information I am also gathering for my trip (so it is not first hand experience). Hope it helps.

Welcome to the forum! Ivar (owner of this marvelous forum) has a luggage storage service, located in central Santiago, where you can ship bags and store for the duration of your camino, be it long or short.

The Spanish postal system works great. They also sell boxes (3-4 euros).

We have shipped a suitcase to Ivar twice - worked great. The first time, we shipped from a post office in Madrid - they sold us a box and we boxed up the suitcase and sent it. The second time, we shipped from the post office in the Madrid airport, and this time we had the luggage wrappers wrap our luggage in plastic which meant we didn't even need a box to ship the suitcase in. You don't even need to know the ins and outs of the postal service - just show up and tell them you want to send this suit case to that address. Its very easy.

On my recent Camino, we went to the Correos office in Burgos and shipped a duffel bag from Burgos to Ivar's storage service in Santiago (Casa Ivar). Ivar will also deliver your package to your lodging in Santiago (in the old town) the day before your arrival for an extra 5 euros (it must be his weight training program). It was so great to have it at our hotel when we arrived in Santiago.

As others have above, I highly recommend Ivar's service in SDC. When we dropped our luggage at Correos in Pamplona they knew his mailing address without me even having to tell them and they were very generous with the weigh scales! Then Ivar sent us a confirmation email that our suitcases arrived safely and he holds them for up to 60 days so you can entirely stop thinking about this and just enjoy your walk knowing everything is safe and secure with your belongings.

For Finisterre and Muxia, if you are looking for a day trip, there are several companies offering bus tours for a very reasonable price. The value here is that you have a guide sharing all the information, you see the 'highlights' of the coast and it's all done in comfort in one day. It is also easy to just grab a bus out to the coast and find a place to stay if you're wanting more time there.
