luggage post-Invierno

Looking for advice or recommendations please.
Walking Invierno/Finisterre /Muxia .

Arriving Madrid in a few weeks and departing by train 4 hours later for Ponferrada. Now what to do with luggage. I have my backpack but would like to sort out what to do with my post Camino luggage.
What's better?
Luggage stay in Madrid for Sept 17 to October 8.
Or ship Correos from Ponferrada to Santiago de Compostela and store at Ivar . ( at which point I will depart for Madrid after Muxia )

Hi, @Alissa_on_the_camino,

Welcome to the forum. You’ve identified the two obvious choices. I can’t think of any reason to transport it up to Santiago and then bring it back with you to Madrid. You will be fine in Santiago with your pilgrim clothes, unless you have a fancy event to attend there.

BUT… you’ve got a 4 hour window to do this. That complicates things. There is no longer a post office at the Madrid airport (assuming you are arriving by plane). Most of the big hotels have kept luggage rooms, so I would hunt for a hotel near Atocha and see if you can drop off your bag, leave it there, and then stay there on your return to Madrid.

Another option would be the Consigna at the Madrid airport.

If it turns out that mailing to Santiago is better, I would take a cab from the Airport to the Post Office/Correos closest to the train station and then walk to the station. On googlemaps, there doesn’t seem to be one extremely close but within a 20 minute walk.

Hi Alissa, we've just arrived in Madrid ahead of our Frances/Invierno walk in a couple of days.
Just be mindful that getting out of Madrid airport and into Atocha can be quite slow. We touched down at 2:10pm and it's now 5:50. We've been in the hotel for about 15 minutes. You could speed this up a bit by only having hand luggage and coming in by can (maybe). Our luggage took an hour to get off the plane and the train ride in is slow.

There are a few options for luggage storage near Atocha (within one or 2 blocks). Not sure the cost. I think it could be kind of an expensive way to go. Might be cheaper just to buy a couple of new outfits when you finish.

One other option for you to consider might be to head on up to Ponferrada and use Manual the luggage transfer guy on that walk. He seems to charge 6 euros per bag per section, it might be a bit more expensive than storage but it would only be marginal.
