Coastal route - Portuguese
Hi -

Has anyone done the camino and had their luggage transported while staying at an AirBnB (private residence) instead of a hotel/hostel, etc? If so, did you have issues? does it just get left at the door even if if it is an apartment building?

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
007- We're on the coastal in May, and TuiTrans is balking at AirBNB pickup, even though the drivers would have phone numbers, etc. I've asked the AirBNB owner to call them and see if they can't sort out a solution, and will let you know what we find out.

I can understand the transport companies not wanting to add stops that aren't on their regular route.

I can just imagine the nightmare for transport companies of many people wanting them to transfer individual pieces of luggage between AirBnb stays. Someone would have to be able to let them into the building at both ends. They'd be trying to find addresses, park their van, the owner won't be there. They dump the baggage at a local bar instead and then have anxious or irate people looking for their bag complaining the bag isn't where they wanted it. Any profit margin is shot.

You can send it by taxi.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

If a transport company had to act a a personal taxi for each piece of luggage they transported it would be a massive increase in labor costs and travel time. I can understand why a baggage transport service would not be willing to do the Airbnb thing. It simply does not follow their already successful business model.

It would be similar to a passenger bus picking up each passenger at their home and then dropping each of them off at their individual destination addresses.

I actually just did this my last day on the Camino in March 2019 - our Santiago accommodation was an AirBnb. I contacted the Airbnb host and asked if they thought it was possible and they said yes, it happens with some frequency, just write down their phone number and address on the envelope. It was apparently delivered to her address and When she met us at our apartment, she already had our bag inside. I can’t recall which company it was - Xacotrans? So it’s worth asking! We sent our “heavy items” ahead, and enjoyed wearing a lighter version of our regular packs. What a deal for 3 euros! It worked really well and helped us enjoy the journey even more.

I had it done once but as noted above, the companies that do this have a set run to albergues and hostels. My pack was left inside the door of the building. Did not do it again as I realized they had really done me a big favor in going off-route.
