Luggage transfer

So far I have carried my stuff on my back like most people! However I am in reduced health due to a bout of glandular fever which has also stopped my walking leading up to the Camino in three weeks. I still want to do it ( Burgos to Leon section) but I am not confident of making it and keeping up with my campions with 9 kg on my back! I have heard that there is a pack forwarding service from albergue to albergue but have no experience of this.
Is it true and how can one organise this?
I have walked the section from Carrion de Los Condes to Leon before so that if I get into difficulty due lack of fitness I can always whimp out after Burgos to Carrion but would prefer to do the whole with companions but without pack if poss.
Any ideas anyone?

You can arrange transfer each day, so you only need to have a one day commitment for distance. Not all albergues will accept bags. Most private albergues will, but some of them are "purist." Jacotrans has a list of places that accept bags, which will include albergues, hostales, and hoteles. The hospitalero can arrange the transport each day, but the transfer service usually wants to have a reservation by about 1600, so make deciding the next day's destination a priority on arrival.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

Many thanks. I must talk to Jacotrans as Margaret suggested. Possibly have to exclude the "purists" on this occasion until I am up to strength again!

Just arrange with you companions to use the private albergues. They are more numerous now than the public ones.

Tim,
Whilst most hospiladeros will arrange for your rucksack to be picked up it is actually the responsibility of the pilgrim to see that the phone call is made to Jacotrans. The fact that they delivered your ruck there today does now necessarily mean that they will call to collect rucks tomorrow unless they receive a phone call.

Walking without your rucksack makes a huge difference, not only as you are walking but knowing that you have booked a bed for the night and can take time to have a meal midday and rest for an hour or so.

Buen Camino,
Lydia

Hi Lydia.
The deposit of your rucksack does not mean automaticaly the reservation of a bunk!
