To some extent James it would depend where you are starting. If I have picked this up right you are doing two weeks, is that right? Are you starting from St Jean? You ask about boots we have started twice from St Jean in May once on the 1st (2011) and once on the 14th (2014). In 2011 rain and mist found us in Valcarlos valley and a few days in we were totally drenched going to Estella and our boots Solid British leather boots took 5days to dry. In 2014 there was snow above St Jean the day before we started but it was clear on the day we went over the Napoleon route, which incidentally we found to be easier and sun, sun, sun, all the way to Santiago Our footwear now is Merrell shoes coupled with Keen sandals and I have walked the whole way in the Keens and was blister free , but do break in your footwear before you go. I case you did not get that break in your footwear before you go and by the way here is a really good tip, break in your footwear before you go. If you are leaving St Jean around the 14th next May we might see you there, and be sure not to take it too seriously and above all enjoy it. A last word of warning before you take that first step this is not a walk it is an addiction!!!!!
