Memorial Compostela

Al the optimist

Veteran Member
There are many posts from people walking in memory of loved ones. Recently my grandson Jakob Watson was stillborn near to full term after struggling with sever Downs Syndrome. He had a difficult little life. I know that there is a thread last updated 4 years ago which discussed obtaining a Compostela on behalf of someone to ill to walk/passed away. On that thread Johnnie Walker clearly explained the procedure to follow. I too will be walking the Frances this spring with the intention of asking for such a Compostela on Jakob's behalf, a continuous reminder of his being and of how much each and every one of us can influence the lives of others.
May all of you who have lost someone find peace.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi Allan. A prayer has gone up for Jakob from me. Your Camino will be a lovely reminder of him. I've walked on behalf of others although I've just dedicated certain days to certain people, but it still makes the experience more intense. If you feel a bit lazy it spurs you on! Have a Buen Camino and God bless you and yours.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Thanks for your kind words Tyrrek and John.
Yes John, that is the thread. I remember seeing it some time ago, but could not find it when I looked. Mind you I can never find what I want in a shop. I think my "shopping dyslexia" is spreading into other areas of my life! :)
Is the information you posted still up-to-date John?
As an aside, I have a Credential in his name which I intend to get stamped in cafes as another record of his journey.

Yes Al, the information is still correct. If you ask in the office on your arrival they will write your name on the compostela and below it they will add the dedication in Jakob's name.

Regards

John

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hi there, Al.
I'm really pleased you asked this question as I would like to add my late father's name to my Compostela certificate but didn't know it was possible...until now.

Buen Camino,

Sheffield James.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Al, I forgot to acknowledge your sad loss in my last post. Apologies. May he rest in eternal peace and you find comfort in having him in your life for the time you did.
