Silly question maybe .... if I start at SJPP is there one route, or many? I want to be sure to go through Roncesvalles.

Is Napoleon way still closed?
Yes. The Napoleon way is closed until March 31 thus necessitating the use of the Valcarlos alternate route.

Futhermore other difficult stretches after winter storms might be from Najera to Santo Domingo de la Calzada or across the Montes de Oca from Villafranca as well as Monte Irago and, of course, O Cebreiro.

Be sure to scan this recent Forum thread for posts/ links by many of us who have walked at this time to help you prepare a winter camino.

Pick up one of the many guide books before you go. No not for walking the Camino since outside the larger cities it's hard to get lost, to take the wrong turn, to become confused. You plan well ...and then...it pours down rain for six hours and you want to stop or you find blisters on blisters and you have to stop or there is no room in the inn at the alberge you selected and you must go on or a thousand other possibilities - always good to have a pocket-sized friend along when you need help to get you through something unexpected.
