My Equipment list for the Camino May/ June 2016

You didn't state your weight. Rule of thumb is 10% of you body weight, for me that mesns I can carry 17.5 pounds.

This is where I start to remember the math "story problems" I had in school. So the more you weigh, the more you can carry? This means that people who are unfit and perhaps overweight are putting even more strain on their joints by carrying extra weight in their packs. My algorithm was = weigh more, pack less at the beginning. Lose weight as I walk and add weight to my pack as I go = same over-all weight at the beginning and the end (body weight + pack weight). I didn't plan it this way but it occurred to me later.

Oh, and re. shoes... I was glad that my "extra, after-walking" shoes were sandals that I was able to actually trek in. Because I ended up walking the camino in my Chaco sandals that worked better than my shoes. So if you are at all unsure of your shoe choice, it's something to consider... making your "extra" footwear also be possible back-up for hiking.

Re: pants, I walked May and June and didn't have a pair of long pants or even an extra pair of shorts. I had one pair of shorts and one pair of tights/long-underwear pants. I had a very lightweight dress to wear while my shorts were drying. It worked out great. The zip-off pants are very practical, and maybe this sounds vain, but I'm just not the "Shants" type. ;)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
