Ajda...welcome to the Forum!

I'm sure the excitement of your first Camino is building and you may have many questions.

May I suggest that you take a look at two topics: (1) FAQ and (2) Class of 2009.

In the first there is a raft of info on many aspects of the Camino and the second will give you an idea of who will be walking the Way at the same time as you.

In addition, you can enter a search word or phrase in the top right hand corner of this page and find loads of good info on specific topics.

Buen Camino,
Arn

Buen Camino when it comes

I enjoy every moment of thinking about Camino. But I'm afraid that my imagination is so boundless and i'll be dissapointed when i'll come to camino.

When you start with Camino? it would be nice to meet you (and others) on the way.

Is 35 days for walk from Pamplona to Santiago too much?
I don't really know how to decided. I'm afraid that if i start in St. Jean Pied de Port, i'll be alone for days (and if i'll meet some people would not speak english).
But on the other hand i wanted to walk hole Camino.

And im worried about bulls in Pamplona. I read that this "bull-run" is on 7.july. Is that correct?
So, if i started my camino 4. july... i'll be in Pamplona 7. july (dey befora or after). And i dont want to meet bulls

Can you give some advise?

Ajda...you have plenty of time to make Santiago if you begin from SJPDP and you will not be alone. There will be many, many pilgrims with you from day one. Also, you will most likely miss the running of the bulls..but watch where you step!

Keep searching the Forum for additional answers to your questions and...if you don't find what you're looking for...ask!

Buen you'll never walk alone Camino,
Arn

Arn thanks for your answer.

You are right, i should read forum first, and than ask.

So, im going to read

So, i changed my planes for Camino.

I decided to avoid crowds and bulls in Pamplona, so I'll star walking july 16th.
And i decided to start in Roncesvalles (i have time... so...)

My flihgts are booked.

And its real... so real that is scarying me

See you on the Camino.

Ajda

Congratulations! July 16 is wonderful! All the crowds and bulls will be gone and Pamplona will be clean and beautiful. And the walk from Roncesvalles is lovely. Be sure to attend the Pilgrim Mass in Roncesvalles. I started on that date two years ago.

Don't worry about being alone. You wil meet many pilgrims and you clearly have enough english to speak to many of them. There are pilgrims from all countries and all languages - we all manage to communicate! Perhaps consider a small, lightweight Spanish dictionary to carry with you.

I'm sure you will find the answers to all your questions here, and if not, just ask! I expect that I shall be walking in July/Aug as well... I just don't know where yet. I'm still thinking about that one!
Buen Camino,

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I am also going to go on my first camino at the end of April 2009. I am eally looking forward to start my journey from SJPP. I have to admit that I am a bit anxious because I only know a few words in Spanish. I hope that I do not have too much trouble because of my lack of Spanish languge.

Hi - on the Camino Frances you won't have any difficulty - but it would be good to learn just a few words or phrases in Spanish, so you can say please and thank you and order coffee and some food. Spanish people respond very well when visitors make an effort to talk to them in their own language. There are lots of hints and tips on the forum about how to do this. I always recommend the BBC's Spanish Steps: http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish/lj/

Happy speaking Spanish!

John

Buen Camino,

Thanks Deirdre.

Is there a special Mass? Good to know. :)

About spanish... I'll try to learn some words in spanish. Do they understand italian? I speak a litle bit of italian and i hope i can use it for communication with people who lived there. Is this too optimistic?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Yes, there is a special Pilgrim Mass with a Pilgrim Blessing at 20h every evening. Make your dinner reservation, then go to the Mass. When I went, there were priests speaking in six languages - Castellano, Catalán, French, German, Italian and English! It is a beautiful chapel with a wonderful statue of Santiago - not to be missed!

There are many italians on the Camino as well. Both walking and cycling. It seemed the cyclists came in droves - 10 -15 at once! We irreverently called them the "italian biker boys"... but they were all very nice and extremely considerate and quiet in the albergues. Since Italian and Spanish are similar, I'm sure you will be able to make yourself understood. Two years ago I was in Italy with absolutely NO italian whatsoever and my spanish got me through!

When all else fails, smile, nod and point!
Buen Camino,
