I've just returned from the Camino Portugues and I walked along the coast from Porto to Vila do Conde and eventually to Santiago. My apologies if this has already been covered on the forum but for those planning that stretch there are some lovely new boardwalks that have been built, particularly on the stretch between Mindelo and Arvore. Brierley's 2015 edition states that you have a choice of a beach walk or a detour inland but the new boardwalk makes it much easier and quicker.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Many thanks. I am glad to know have this information as I will be cycling the Caminho Portugues in September.

Some of the boardwalks have signs prohibiting cyclists so you may need to make that detour after all.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

C'est dommage! Peut-être que je peux mettre mon vélo sur mon dos. Ha. Ha

Thanks, useful info as I start the route from Porto on 6th of june. Is it a very windy walk? I expect the stage from Villa de Conde inland to barcellos to be difficult because of busy roads.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Do you know if the ferry at Caminha is running?
Sorry, no, I don't have any current information about the ferry as I left the coast at Vila do Conde and headed inland.

Hi Christy,
The day I walked along the coast the wind was quite light and I can't imagine it being a problem unless there was a strong westerly storm. The walk from Vila do Conde to Barcelos does have a lot of road walking, at least in the first few hours. The traffic is very fast, there are blind bends, and there is often little room on the verge for walkers. Be very aware and careful on this stretch. Once you get to Arcos it settles down a bit but there is a lot of road walking in one form or another on that day and going on to Barcelos makes for quite a long day.

Thanks for this info, it will make it easier to decide whether to go coastal or central.
