Is it really light? 132 pages seems like a lot to me for such a short (sic!) Camino...I have the Spanish version, bought at Casa da Solaino, A Rua, hot off the press in August. It is small and light. For those who don't speak Spanish, an English version would be worth having.

Congratulations! It's beautiful Camino.Just finished the Invierno this week. The forum guide was better than the Spanish guide. The difficulty we had was that the route keeps getting changed. The new guide would only be valuable if the route is "stable".
Asuncion the President of the Association of Friends of the Camino for Valedorras has asked me to ask everyone if there is sufficient demand to publish a new Guide in English of the Invierno. There is a Spanish version, the Third Edition was published in August 2016 so the plan is to publish it in English for same price of 13€. The Guide is well illustrated with detailed maps of each stage.
-132 pages
-100 photographs
-11 altitude profiles
-25 maps
-Street plans of the principal localities
-Complete information of all the stages
-Albergues, hostals, fountains, bars, taxis, trains, buses.
-Recommended route for cyclists and list of bike repairers.
-Price: 13 euros + postage.
Mail: sulma.arias@gmail.com
Can anyone let me know if you would be intetrested in purchasing as it might help expedite its publication which realistically would be at least 3 months away. Many thanks.

Yes please.Yes, I'd buy one. Considering the Invierno for next May.
That's actually Camino SanabresA Laxe - Santiago (Via de la Plata)
I bought one in Spanish from Asún a couple of years ago. It's fine, but the guide on here is, in my humble opinion, better.
Why? Simply because it has received input from many of us, and Laurie's incredible work keeps it as up to date as possible.
As a 'veteran' of the Camino de Invierno (walked twice), I must say that I have had no problems with the way marking. I DID manage to get lost before A Pobra do Brollon, but that was my fault. I also 'invented' another way out of Monforte de Lemos, staying for the night in Escairón and finding my own way back to the camino at Belesar.I walked the Invierno with Laurie's pdf last spring, and was with a friend for a few days who had the Spanish guidebook. Both were very useful and seemed to supplement each other. It's a route that requires some faith and improvisation because of the lack of way marking in areas, so the more guidebooks, the merrier! And it's a wonderful, wonderful walk....
Yes, I'd buy one. Considering the Invierno for next May.
I am so sorry to hear that. I hope it is nothing serious. She is really the heart and soul of the group in A Rua.Asun is not well at the moment so there is a delay in getting her instructions to translate the Guide into English. I'll keep everyone posted, thanks.
Oh, so sorry to hear that! If you're in contact with her please send her my best wishes - just mention the guy with bedbug problem (back in 2014) and she will know.Asun is not well at the moment so there is a delay in getting her instructions to translate the Guide into English. I'll keep everyone posted, thanks.
When you'll talk with her, please, let her now that me & my camino buddy from Malta will try to stay in her albergue on january the 21th.Asun's suffering from kidney stones, she said she would speak to me when she's feeling better...I will pass on your messages of concern, many thanks.

I so appreciate any direction from any direction! I have never been or used a forum so I know I'm going to be making errors. Bare with me, please. I also know there are a myriad of helpers on this forum and elsewhere so ain't I lucky!Hi, Marigold Mama,
Have you seen the super-easy to follow guide in the Resources section of the forum? It's the product of many forum members who have walked (and loved) the Invierno!

I have seen the Resource section but for some reason I had a problem finding a guide for the Camino Inverno/Invierno. (?)
Thank you I have often read many of your helpful post, peregrina2000.
Thanks...guess that makes us Tech Twins!Hi Marigold Mama,
Here is the link to the guide: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/com...e-to-the-camino-de-invierno-2016-edition.442/
You will have to download it, I think. If you have a problem doing that, please don't hesitate to ask for help. I am a very dumb tech person and I always get lots of help from smart forum members who are very kind and gracious.

Agree with most of your comments and you obviously did the same stages as I....
Castrotañe: Penelope's place was delightful
Chantada: Hostel Yoel was friendly and clean but beds needed to be updated.
...
Outeiro: we had the lights stay on all night with no one to call for help. Next time I would stay in Ponte Ulla and have a longer day to Santiago. No food available. A nice kitchen without a single kitchen item in it. Stovetop was not working. Microwave available.
Who is going to translate this, though?Hi to everyone who participated in this thread or to any newcomers interested in this topic. I've got an update as I've just spoken to Asun whose finally back to her best after her recent illness. Much to the Association's credit they are preparing a Forth Edition to their Guide which should be published in a couple of months in Spanish Only. However, I have persuaded her it should be published in English given the level of demand that was expressed to me previously. They are also going to improve the maps included in it even further !! So hopefully if all goes well there could be an English Version available by the end of Summer 2017, fingers crossed. At least it will be really up to date when it comes out and definitive given the number of previous editions and corrections.
I do get this. You say you have persuaded Asunción Arias to publish an English version of the Spanish guide book. As informed on this thread.
Now confused Local Newspaper say one thing Forum poster says another.
Thank you Laurie. For what you've done and for the new improved version you have in mind.Wow, so there are soon going to be TWO English language guides? I hadn't put all this information together. This may mean that the forum Invierno guide will become a thing of the past, but I think I'll stick with it for at least one more year since it's so much fun to do with so many people's help! Buen camino, Laurie

Great!Yours truly Charrito
Great!
If you need any help, please pm me. I'd be all too willing to lend a hand.
If all goes well, I'll be doing my third Camino de Invierno around the third week of June. This time I'll be with my wife. I've told her on repeated occasions just how marvellous this camino is, so she definitely wants to see it for herself firsthand. Will thanks so much....

Hope to hear from you soon! ¡Hasta pronto!
There are some beautiful caminos (the Primitivo, parts of the Norte, the San Salvador, for example), but the Invierno has everything, apart - perhaps - for the infrastructure. To be honest, though, the incredible stages and landscapes more than make up for not having albergues every ten kilometres or so.That's great...I'm thinking along the same lines ..have to do it soon..
The guide that you have on here is excellent, and quite a few of us who are in love with the Camino de Invierno have contributed to Laurie's work of art!Perhaps I am being very slow-witted, but I have not found a link in this thread to where I might buy Asun's guide, in English OR in Spanish. I'm on the Frances at the moment with a companion who has to return to the US because of an injury. So now I have the opportunity to walk a different route, which I would prefer, if I can get enough resources to feel some confidence on the route sola. I downloaded Laurie's guide, which looks very good. But I have to cut her stages in (at least) two, because my age and fitness level limit me to a maximum of ten miles a day. And I do better with fewer miles than that. A guide with maps and a kindle version would be ideal. Does it exist, in any language?
Just to add to above responses (which I can only second) I can send you my info from 2014, simple maps included, and along with mentioned forum guide you'll be able to get to Asun's place in A Rua without any mishaps. There you can buy her guidebook if still wanted. PM me if you think my material could be of some help.Perhaps I am being very slow-witted, but I have not found a link in this thread to where I might buy Asun's guide, in English OR in Spanish. Thank you all for your replies to my post. I'm now in Las Medulas. I spent a few hours with Roger in Ponferrada, confirming the itinerary I had sketched out. I try not to use apps while hiking, as I'm really not clear what my plan with AT&T allows, and as you know, wifi tends to be hit and miss. At this point I have to say that forum members have done a fabulous job on the Invierno Guide. I am very grateful to you all! In fact, Roger kept referring to it, especially after he saw I had it on my phone. The route IS very well marked, and very beautiful. I have not encountered another peregrino since I started yesterday. The views and the birdsong on the way out of Ponferrada, combined with the solitude of the route make it ideal for me. And so far, I have been able to redesign the stages to suit my needs. I do intend to call on Asun when I get to A Rua and will get the guide with maps then. K-1, I would appreciate any info you care to PM me that would make it easier to locate Asun.Firstly, I must say that the markings on the route have clearly improved immensely as I have only found a few places where junctions were not marked so you are very unlikely to get lost. Also, the Wise Pilgrim App really has ALL of the essential info and as it includes gps tracks you really can't get lost. That said the forum guide is great for all the details not jus of the route but of the places of interest as well.
This is very helpful information. Thank you!Strictly speaking you don't need to use any data with the app as it will work without it. It would just mean you could not see the map, but you would be able to see the gps track and where you are in relation to it. I know this as my data did not work for the first 5 days of my camino last year and I still used the app successfully.

Hi!
YES PLEASE! I would indeed love that! Do you have any new ideas on when it could be published? Me and my friend are planning to walk it around May 2018. If it was ready by then we would be more than happy, and less likely to get lost! Many Thanks to you for taking on this task! Love, Susanne

When I recently met Adia from the Association she said that English guide books are now available via either the website ( http://www.caminodeinvierno.com/content/detailed-guide-winter-route-santiago-aida-menéndez-lorenzo) or via email. I enclose a copy of her card.Yes please. Think I will walk the invierno in 2018
Thanks, Ribeirasacra. I am glad to see this. I think I will stick with the free forum guide for at least one more year (having just posted my intention to do so, about an hour before this news came in!). Not that I am trying to compete with this guide, but having a free alternative is not a bad thing, so long as everyone remembers you get what you pay for. When I recently met Adia from the Association she said that English guide books are now available via either the website ( http://www.caminodeinvierno.com/content/detailed-guide-winter-route-santiago-aida-menéndez-lorenzo) or via email. Then there is always the very free PDF.
Yes, please. I walked the Invierno last May/June, using a combination of Laurie's guide -- excellent -- and the Spanish version of Asun's guide -- superb. Although my Spanish is very poor, and partly because it is so poor (it was hard to converse with people), Asun's guide was still very helpful. The Invierno was gorgeous, and while I may never have the opportunity to walk the Invierno again, I would like to have the English language guide, if only as a memento of an amazing journey, and to support those who made it possible for me.

So will the translation be of the 4th edition? That would be great. Any news on Asún's mom and her health? I know things were bad for a while last year. Surely she knows how many people on this forum remember her so fondly and hope for the very best for her.Yes I agree with you, I loved it from the first step to the last despite being bitten by a dog, someone even said I should know no better!! Easier said than done. Yes you can buy the Spanish Guide now which I did too or there's info on each stage and maps on their website http://caminodeinvierno.es/etapas-itinerario-alojamiento-predicción-meteorológica/ Laurie I just heard from Asun whose recovering from two recent spain related injuries and she said the Forth Edition of the Guide in Spanish is nearly ready, it's being proof read. I'll keep you all posted.

I would have thought that carrying a book is a bit to yesterday when undertaking a pilgrimage.
If you want one for the coffee table/book shelf then you can purchase them immediately with English text.
See details in post 82 on this thread. However the link on the official Spanish website for this route has changed. The guide can be purchased here.
I have a suggestion for the forum that issuing the free guides in PDF format may not be so handy these days. As I understand it mobile devices can make the viewing of PDFs rather awkward and that formatting is not consistant. Maybe a change to a format that is more mobile friendly could be considered for these unillustrated guides?
There are please read the information in this thread.I've long been considering ways to bypass the Sarria - Santiago hullabaloo.
The Inverno is a leading candidate but the fear, perhaps unjustified, of long stages and uncertain accommodation has frightened me off.
A comprehensive English language guide book would be most welcome in paperback and/or ebook form.
Regards
Gerard
