Outerwear For Sept

Folks, will be trekking from the 11th to the 21st of Sept. Suggestions for outerwear. Right now bringing long sleeve shirts and a sweatshirt with hoodie. Do I need something warmer?

Hello and welcome to the forum.
A lot depends on where you will be during your ten-day walk. If you’re not expecting to be in any mountainous areas (e.g. the Pyrenees or the area around the Cruz de Ferro), you might be able to get away without a warm jacket, though I would pack a light down sweater if I were going to be in any of this areas. I’ve used a sweater like this in May in the higher altitudes and in the early mornings as a layer to be removed as the sun warms the day.

Your best route is to research online. the weather for the part of the Camino you plan to walk. Plan accordingly based on that.
I can only say I walked the Frances before and it went into mid September. Was not cold at all. Only chilly at night sometimes and I had a fleece pullover for that.

Sometimes mornings are chilly. On second camino I had to use my socks as gloves every now and then.

You can take dollar store gloves and hat just in case.

I use layers so for a winter walk (minus temp., snow) I only add a long sleeve merino jumper and leggings to what I bring for a Summer Camino....But I wear all my layers. (Oh, and gloves!)

This is likely much bulkier and heavy than you need to carry in September. If you have a rain jacket, you can add that to your regular walking outfit for extra insulation in the unlikely event that you are too cold while walking. In the evenings when you are sitting around, it may be nice to have a lightweight long sleeved fleece or a down vest/jacket that you can add to whatever other light layer you have, and also wear to bed on a cold night.

Daytime temperatures are still pretty warm in September. I walked in very short sleeve merino wool dresses, with merino tights if it was cooler. For warmth I had a light merino wool sweater, and a very lightweight hoodie - not fleece. I would wear both those layers occasionally in the morning, but usually warmed up quickly and had to remove one or both. I was happy to have gloves the day I left I Cebreiro.

You need something cooler! Your outerwear will be for rain, not cold.

Layers, layers, layers -- but thin ones are best. A hoodie may be too heavy and bulky. As others have mentioned, some mornings can be downright chilly, and I remember starting out on the Sept. 19th (my birthday!) with a t-shirt, my long sleeved merino wool shirt and then my windbreaker, along with my merino wool cap and my sports gloves, and stripped off my layers as the day went on. I debated bringing my packable down jacket, and I didn't, but there were several times on my Camino that I wished I had brought it as I ended up buying a really thick fleece in Portomarin.
