Paris-Santiago, I'm a novice, can you help?

Hi my name is Andy and i'm an English and Cultural Studies student studying in Salford in England. Last year after reading several books in which the Paris - Santiago pilgrimage was mentioned i felt inspired to find out more. The little that I do now know has made me feel sure that i MUST do this myself. Unfortunately i can not find any books or information on the first section of the route, Paris-Roncesvalles. i dont even know how far the total route is...and as i am planning on doing it all on foot this might be handy to know! Could somebody please help me out as i am a complete ignoramus when it comes t forward planning! I guess this is my cry for help!
