Post Camino forum addiction

Time of past OR future Camino
Francés fall/winter 2019
I finished walking my camino on Dec 10. I find myself on this forum more now, than I did before I went! I want to go again so much! It was such an amazing special experience and I’m so glad I went (I was SO nervous). Now I troll around and read everyone else’s posts! All I want to do is go back.

It was absolutely stupendous. Uncrowded, cold, most things closed. But it was awesome! The one time in my life that I was responsible for nobody except myself! That was an eye opening experience.

Sometimes I’d walk for hours without seeing people on the trail. I got to know people really well...when there is only one alburgue open, that happens easily!

One incredibly scary experience, but I learned from it.

There was no bed race, no flies, so bad smells, no crowds
I packed way too light and had to modify my pack a lot....I get really cold, rarely walked in less than two bottom layers and three top layers after Nov 1.

I could talk about it non stop!

Obviously having issues with returning to the world.

Thanks to all who helped me answer my questions in the Fall!

Your journey sounds beautiful and amazing! Congratulations! I finished on 26 October. Planning for either Francigena from Lausanne in 2021 or Camino Del Norte in 2022. I agree this forum is a wonderful placebo for the Camino bug.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Yep...we all hear you. The forum also provides a 'Community Service'; here we can talk (write) about every little facet non-stop without driving everyone else nuts!
Great pic...being a spring/summer walker, I can't imagine a scene such as this. Well done for tackling it 'off season'.
If you're happy to share, what was your scary experience?

Welcome to the club. The desire to do it again is called "The Camino Curse". You went for a reason the first time and it will call you back. I am used to it and walk the Camino every 2-4 years - same reason: The Curse of the Camino.

Only every 2-4 years? How do you stand being away so long?!

My wife objects to my walking the Camino every 6 months or each year. Happy wife - happy life. That is how I have been married to the same woman for 50+ years.

My home life sort of ‘fell through’. I do need to go back. I’m worried I’m just escaping problems here!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Maybe it is time to step up the challenge, and go twice a year!
Actually, I did last year.
After my "long" Camino in May/June - SJPDP to León on the Frances, León to Oviedo on the Salvador, connecting to the Norte at Avilés to Santiago, then continuing on to Finisterre - I went back with a friend and did the Portugues route from Porto to Santiago in September.

Must be the reason why my husband hasn't objected to my yearly Caminos.
One of my first lessons in Spanish, was that when/if I am in a quarrel with my woman, in order to keep the peace in the house,I always have to end it by saying "Si, senora"...

It is 4 years since my last Camino and I said I would not walk again. But I read the forum every single day and relive my previous two walks. Love it. And now it is coming to life again because this year my husband and I are walking part of the Via Francigena and I am madly reading all the Italian posts. Only problem is I have to buy a new pack because I sold mine.

Welcome to the curse of the Camino. I felt the same way. I managed to talk my buddies into returning two years later to walk the Portuguese Camino. We loved it. Now we are planning our next for 2022 to celebrate our 75th birthdays.

BTW do you notice how the Camino seems to sneak into all topics of conversation.

Buen Camino Bob

The Camino is a very strong force, calling you back. It's a fact. And each time, you will grow your life, if you listen and obey to its calling. It is good for you.
