Is it too early to start the Camino primitive in mid march
Welcome to the forum @conorohara125 !

It's never too early or too late to start any Camino but be prepared for some harsh weather. Check out some of the threads about winter (March could still be winter in north of Spain) in Primitivo subforum. Plenty of useful info there.

But anyway - Ultreia!

Welcome to the forum! As KinkyOne states the Primitivo can be walked at any time if you don't mind winter weather, however just past Borres you will have a choice of two variants, the Hospitales route and the route through Pola de Allande. In my opinion if the weather is harsh (bad visibility especially) then take the Pola de Allande option as the Hospitales route is very wild with no civilization or water on it. If in doubt as the locals or a hospitalera for good advice when you get near. Both routes are stunningly beautiful though!

Buen Camino!

Hi,

I would check into Spanish meteorological websites in advance to get an indication of temperatures/precipitation patterns. I intended to walk the Primitivo mid- April last year. Due to a very wet and cold Spring in Northern Spain, I delayed my departure by a week to try and avoid the worst of the weather.

When I arrived in Oviedo after taking a bus from Santander, I could see that the he mountains in the distance were covered in snow. As a consequence, I decided to complete the rest of the Northern Camino. I had previously walked from Irun the year before, so I wasn't dejected. Finishing the Northern Camino was very rewarding!

I hope to complete the Primitivo this year by flying out at Easter. However, if it's very cold in the run up, I might have to make alternative arrangements. The Camino Via De Plata or the main Italian Camino are fall back options.

Hi, has anyone walked the Primitivo in mid-October? What was it like? Weather, tracks and accommodation? I plan to walk from Oviedo to Lugo only, then bus to Santiago after. Thanks for your input.
