Halleluja! This is great news!

Santiago - Madrid has seen prices increase a lot after Spanair pulled their route, Vueling pulled their route, AirEuropa pulled their route... leaving Iberia with a monopoly.

Starting November 18th two flights per day to Madrid will do wonders. These planes will be full, I guarantee that since Iberia are not very popular in Galicia after their price hikes lately. This makes Madrid a nice Ryanair hub. The full news here:

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Have just done a quick search on Ryanair for the new flights from Madrid to SdC to get an idea of the cost..

0.90 euros each way!!! (for the first few days at least) Incredible. Wish i was able to take advantage of the offer!

...and for those who´d like a cheap flight to start off on part of the Camino de Madrid, or perhaps commence in Leon or Astorga, or the Via de la Plata in Salamanca... RyanAir has similar ridiculous offers on flights into Valladolid, a place with excellent, closer-than-Madrid transport links to all different caminos. You can fly from Brussels or London Stanstead or (I think) Paris. (We flew Valladolid to London recently for 28 Euros, and met several Madrileños aboard who find the savings on airfare worth a train trip to Valladolid!)
