seeking guidance on the norte way...

Hi All

I am planning to walk the norte path starting in Irun around 1st April 2011.

I am wondering about a few things ......

1. Where is the best place to head for once in Irun..... is there a central refugio? .... preferred hostel...... Camino office?
2. Where does one get a passport in Irun?
3. What will the weather be like through April?
4. How busy is the northern way likely to be in April?
5. Any tips for the northern way?....... any comments generally.......?

I have heard there is a refugio in Irun but we did not find it.

There is a Youth Hostel in Irun where we stayed. They offer a pilgrim discount. It's up on the hill, absolutely walkable from the bus station. They offer breakfast, or did when I was there.

I walked in Fall so will let someone else answer your other questions.

Yes there is a refugio in Irun - the tourist office marked it on the map for us. From memory it did not open till later in the afternoon (I think about 4.00. It is on the 1st floor of a building. I walked in September and so unable to answer the seather queries for April - it is a great time though when I walked - had about 3 damp days. Cheers, Janet
