While weather conditions and temps are ever changing, the general pattern, confirmed by my own experience says, that throughout September, temps are moderate, pleasant, but as you approach the month end and entering October, it is getting cool as soon as sun sets, especially as you walk into the mountainous O'Cebreiro area into Galicia. Chances of rain increase progressively too. Overall, we've had an exceptionally warm and sunny summer that currently prolongs into a beautiful autumn, lets hope that it continues but never count on it! So pack some warm garment layers, the regular sleeping bag, rain gear of course is a must.

When do a majority of albergues close?
Usually not until the end of October, but if it is quiet, some may close earlier. In towns with two or more albergues, there is almost always one that is open. Check gronze.com for specific information. It is about as reliable as any source on closures.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I'll be starting at Gijon on the 16th by bike. I was told that the route is wet most mornings and to enjoy the temps in the 70's by noon.

Hi, my wife walked the Camino Frances in 2013 at the same time as you, and she had no problems.
Wish you well and a Buen Camino, Peter.

Hi Conor, I think even in mid October about 100 register daily in pilgrim office in SJPP. Albergues will be open and all will be well. If you like to be cosy at night sneak a sleeping bag as well as a silk liner into your backpack.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Bring a well stocked first aid kit. Remember, on the Camino we are our brothers keeper, and a 'brother' may need some minor medical assistance-feet. Look online for the single use triple antibiotic ointment and bring a few, and some antihistamine ointment. Also, sept/oct can get cold and some albergues save money on heating costs by, not heating. I'd rx a down quilt-I like the Enlightened Eqiupment Revelation, but, there are others-Sea to Summit traveler.

Hello :) Since its a September 15 tips thing here I have a question too.

Anyone know when sunrise is during sept/Oct months? Is it necessary to bring a headlamp you think?

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Hi Linni, to bring a headlamp is a smart thing to do. A headlamp is very handy in the albergue to.
Wish you well and a Buen Camino, Peter.

If that looks a little odd, it’s because the clocks will be put back one hour during the night of Sunday 25 October. Which means that it will no longer be pitch dark when you are tossed out of the albergue at 8am!! Jill

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Looks like my reply turned into an advertisement. I'm in Gijon right now, Beautiful! Have a hotel in old city. Very windy, 20 to 25 mph. I was told this is common in September. A good windbreaker is needed but it will be difficult doing the Camino with this wind. Hope it dies down tomorrow.
