I saw someone post in FB that the pilgrims statues pointing to Santiago have been moved? Is this true? I was there in Oct and they were in the same place they had been in my previous visits. I haven’t looked at the forum in awhile so maybe it was posted.
Thanks

Happy research and Carpe diem.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
I've just seen Facebook posts from June and July this year where the statues are still in place. If they have been moved it must have been within the past week.

I cannot comment if they have been moved since I dont know where they were located to begin with
As of June 25th if one approached Chapel of st marc and hooked left on the path, continued on it past Pope JPII tribute, and crossed the road - the statues are right there looking at the Santiago Cathedral
here are my photos from FindPenguins

Yesterday a pilgrim on FB said statues are now about one kilometer off path on grassy knoll pointing nowhere.

She also stated after a few caminos this was her first time walking to them.

Maybe that’s where statues have always been. I too have yet to take statue detour. Ergo, I would not know.

I think they have been in their current position for quite a few years.
Not sure if 'many years ago' they were closer to where the Pope JPII tribute was?

I was there yesterday morning… nope not moved!!!!!! Same spot.

There is quite a bit of annoying fencing around the concert/event area in between the knoll and Camino. There is no signage and if you didn’t know where to turn… you’d miss it.

I missed seeing the statues in 2015 and 2016, although I was on that hill. I did not know of their existence until later after seeing pictures posted as they are located out of sight.

I first saw them in this position in 2015 and it seems they are still there.
Maybe further back in time, they were in a different position?

As you know, they are a bit 'off' the Camino, maybe 500m, on a hill.

Here is the Google Map with terrain. While it keeps the direction to the paved road once you cross Rua de Estrelas you can stay on any path...and by that time you CLEARLY can see the monument.

shows as 600m from the chapel so @Robo is spot on with his estimation

Yea, you have to walk to them about 1km so most people didn’t. My husband had to point them out off in the distance.I was definitely too tired and just wanted to get to Santiago.

Someone told me the Pope’s gone too, what ever next! Yes, I missed them in 2016 due to a typical heavy downpour that made it impossible to see them, or dry out my gortex walking shoes on arrival in Santiago! I do believe they’ve moved slightly as you used to be able to see them from the road I think 🤔 of course recollections may vary ;)

I hope the statues have not been moved. I loved where they were located, looking down on Santiago in the distance.

I was there in October and they were in the same place they were in 2014 and 2017 so I was confused. It seemed that the trees we trimmed and maybe cleaned up around the huge alberque there. Unless they moved the hill I thought they were in the same place.
