suggestions?

For various reasons, I cannot do the whole Camino.

I would welcome suggestions for perhaps six or seven days ie a starting point and stopping points.

Apart from walking, are there any other modes that would be suitable?

Thanks in advance, Euphrosene

PS Should have introduced myself: author/writer, living in W Sussex UK

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
In order to qualify for the compostela you need to walk 100km. You could do this easily in a week starting from Sarria.

Dear Euphrosene Labon

I agree, From Sarria a relaxed pace to walk, is a good point , If you have more time,

As discussed elsewhere in the forum, take a bus to pedrafieta and walk over the hill to Ocebreiro and start from there. I took the advice from one of the forum members and I thank him for that. From Ocebreiro it is 152 kms.
From Sarria, its around 105-110. The 100 km marker is between Sarria and Santiago

It was breathtaking scenary. And am glad I did it

Regards
Bharat

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi Euphrosene,

You could also walk from Valenca in Portugal over the Rio Minho into Galicia and up to Santiago in 7 days. My mother and I did it in 8, but we took are time.

1: Valenca/Tui to Redondela
2: Redondela to Pontevedra
3: Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis
4: Caldas de Reis to Padron
5: Padron to Santiago

You can stop at smaller towns along the way if you want to stretch it out to 7 days:

Tui to Porrino then Redondela
Redondela to Arcade then Pontevedra

Good luck!

Apart from walking you can go by bicycle.
You can hire one from Tour 'n Ride (a place in Santiago) who will bring it to you and you then ride it back.

http://www.tournride.com/portal/index.php

You can join a guided walk - try On Foot In Spain which was started by Nancy Frey and Jose Placer. (Nancy wrote the book Pilgrim Stories - on and off the road to Santiago).
They have short guided walks and I couldn't think of a better guide!

You could also go on horseback.

You will find help and support at: http://www.elcaminoacaballo.com
http://www.turismo-rural.com/natulacaballo/index.html and
http://www.csj.org.uk have “The Way of Saint James on horseback: the complete guide”

Good luck!
