Ten tips for the Camino de Santiago not end up in rescue
P. ABET ABCENGALICIA / SANTIAGO
Day 29/1/2013 - 2:23 p.m.
Each year, emergency services are forced to assist tens of pilgrims who have just disoriented or trapped in the snow. The last, a group of Koreans who had to be rescued from the mountain in a tractor

1 Check the weather forecast

MUÑIZ
The spring months are the most recommended
Consult the meteorological part before each stage of the Camino de Santiago is a prerequisite to reach that goal without blisters problem. The Koreans that January 24 had to be rescued by firemen Navarra surprised a heavy snowfall that left totally isolated. The area was in temporary alert.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hi falcon,
There is a film about the camino on YouTube by Daniel Seo I was watching the other night ( being obsessed with all things camino ... Help ..) and he relates his story of leaving late from SJPDP and getting lost. He was picked up by a local, taken to the top of the mountain, and left there. He ended up sleeping out that night, and was troubled by his experience.
I wondered if you'd seen that film, and what you made of it ?

Night walking is almost always a bad idea. No I haven't seen the YouTube clip. The Koreans were rescued, probably at considerable expense, because they set out in known bad weather. The result could easily have been much worse. If you look at the snow in the thread on Winter in Roncesvalles

http://www.eltiempo.es/fotos/navarra/ro ... bject_map={%224557513449877%22%3A427851810622411}&action_type_map={%224557513449877%22%3A%22og.likes%22}&action_ref_map={%224557513449877%22%3A%22photopage%22}

you can see just how dangerous the weather was. If the rescue party had not found them the first day, they might not have been found. They did make it to a shelter, which helped. Lost and trapped on the mountainside would have been fatal!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Transport luggage-passengers.

Thx for the link, Falcon, but it probably needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Not many of have the flexibility to only walk in the warmer months, or time to follow the advice of keeping under 20km/day, for example. Much of the other 'advice' has been fiercely debated on this forum, with many more points of view than this rather superficial report takes into account.

I wasn't sure that many of the tips actually addressed the headline, but I suppose one doesn't always expect headlines to reflect content.

Regards,
