Time of past OR future Camino
Yes, one day I plan to walk el Camino.
Thank you, for allowing me to join your forum. My name is Macedonio Casas and I just turned 55, and El Camino de Santiago has been on my bucket list for at least 5 years. When I retired from the Military in 2015, I was getting myself mentally and physically ready for "the walk", and then I was offered a job so I sidelined my trek indefinitely. As I get older, I know that the trek will be more challenging so I ask.

Who is the oldest person to complete el Camino de Santiago?
What age is too old?

I did my first when I retired at 66,and hoped to do my 7th in Sept at 73,if Covid allows.Best wishes for your dream.

Now, I'm inspired, a new motivation has just surged.

Alexwalker, I was wondering when they may open up the route and Europe again?

Noone can tell, but recent articles (I can't remember where, but there is a link to it on this forum) indicate that this year will be a year of internal holidays, which sounds very likely and responsive.

Pay attention to the words of @VNwalking above: This forum is a true wealth of information and wisdom about the Caminos: Use your time wisely; search, read & learn. You will be more prepared than most first-timers when you set out.

Buen Camino!
Ultreya! (upwards & forward)

Edit: Found it. If you use Google Chrome, right-click on the article text to translate it from Spanish:

Welcome to the Forum, Macedonio. You can find a lot of useful information here.
Do not worry about your age, it is just a number.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
During our first camino in 2015, we met a woman who was just a few days shy of age 80. She was walking camino frances alone and carrying her own backpack. Quite inspiring.

Alex, thanks for attaching the article. Quite clear that even when restrictions start to be lifted, this will be limited to encouraging the local population to travel within Spain, but allowing International travel into Spain is quite unlikely. Bob

A couple of years ago I met a woman who was 93. She was walking the Frances with her daughter and she was doing just fine!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
I will be 75 in September. I met an 84 year old doing his 14th CF. Buen Camino.

You are the same age as me when I walked my first Camino, many years ago.

Seriously: can't the people in the Pilgrim Office see who the oldest registered is? Or... Don't they write it down somewhere? I haven't been to the Pilgrim Office in ages, I don't know how it works…

I know all pilgrims don't care about getting the Compostelana (I'm one of them) but the Office records could give a hint of who might be the oldest...

I can't recall 'age' as being any of the basic information asked for. Perhaps it is not part of the dataset that is collected.

The two oldest I met in 2012 were an 80 yo woman who had walked from her home in Switzerland and an 82 yo Japanese man with a prosthetic leg from above the knee, him we could not keep up with, he told us it was his third Camino.
No age is too old as long as you can and want to walk.

The statistics from the Pilgrim's office in Santiago just has 3 age groups: under 30 years, 30-60 years and over 60 years.

At some albergues the hospitaleros record the ages of the pilgrims

Hello Macedonio
I consider myself to be a newbie on this Forum as I have joined about a year ago and my very 1st Camino is scheduled for May-June of next year (God Willing).
If so I will be 61and if all goes according to the plan
will celebrate my 62nd one day out from Santiago on the way to Finisterra
As long as you are prepared no age is a limit!
Buen Camino 👍
Ultreia 🙋‍♂️

You're in great company at 55!
I was 74 when I did my first.
I was inspired by Jose (75), who did it the year before me and I followed him on this forum.
His advice: Go! It's one of the hardest and most wonderful life experiences you'll ever have.
As most here will tell you, the lessons of the Camino unfold for years afterword!
