Sarria to Santiago July 2022
Hi everyone,

We need your help in deciding what to do. We are resuming our french Camino on the 7th May and land in Bilbao at 5.55pm. it looks like the last bus to logrono is 8pm. The first question is do ye recommend we try for the bus to logrono or stay overnight in Bilbao and get the bus in the morning?
Second question is, my sister is unable to carry her rucksack due to an old shoulder injury and we wondered if we stay overnight in Bilbao, how do we arrange our rucksacks to be delivered to najera if we take the first train to logrono arriving at 8.45am ?
I have looked at the guys that do the transport of bags and they have a depot in logrono but I can't get a clear answer if 8.45am is too late for them to pick it up ?
All suggestions would be gratefully appreciated 😊 Thank you

Number 1, I´d stay in Bilbao overnight, don´t rush things.

A suggestion, when you get to Logroño, go to an albergue and ask if you can leave the rucksack there to be collected by Jacotrans or whoever you use along with all the other backpacks they collect that day. Having said that, I doubt if 8.45 is too early.

The other possibility is take the bus from Logroño to Najera and start from there.

I’m with Mr. Bird. Spend your time making a plan for an evening in Bilbao. Expect delays always.

Question #2 is more interesting. I think you’ll be ok but it will be close. I suspect that Logroño is the first pickup of the day, which makes it the earliest. Perhaps send them an email?

As someone who likes to get where they are going, avoiding a stop that will be plagued by jet lag, I would recommend that you take the 7:40pm bus that leaves right outside the Bilbao airport door...no long walk involved...arriving in Logrono at 10:15pm. Keep in mind that this is Spain. 10:15pm is dinner time for many. I would then recommend taking the short bus ride the next morning to Najera and starting from there. It's a scenic bus ride.

It will be easy to find a place to stay in Logrono to fit your budget. And if you book in advance, ask them to arrange to move your luggage to wherever your final destination is after Najera.

Where are you flying from? Have you been to Bilbao before? Are you pressed for time? These all impact what advice you can be given as to a potential stay in Bilbao.

As for bag transport, 8:45 isn’t that late for pickup, but it would depend upon the agency you are using and the site you are leaving your bag. That answer would need to come from the company and your accommodation, not us guessing.

Hi everyone,

We need your help in deciding what to do.
I think @Anthony Rocco 's suggestion is best.
In Logrono I can personally recommend the pension which is part of the albergue. Very central and you can book a twin room.
They have a late check-in until 2300. And it will be simple to arrange forwarding your bags the following morning.

Thank you for your help. We would really like to begin in logrono as this is where we finished last year. That's a good idea about asking at an albergue😊 I have only been in contact with corroes website but I will look up the jacotrans too. Thanks again

Thank you for your help 🙂 yep I will chase them up with another email and do what Mr Bird suggests too. Thanks again

Thank you for your helpful message 😊 I didn't realise there was a direct bus to Logrono from the airport. Thanks for the link.

Thank you for your help 🙂 we are only flying from Dublin so it's not a long flight. We spent a day in Bilbao last year on our way home so we don't mind spending or not spending a night there.
I will need to do more research suggested from the previous post regarding rucksack transport. Thanks again
