According to the London Daily Telegraph :
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/07/06/european-flights-cancelled-air-traffic-control-strikes/ (paywall warning)
Thousands of European flights may be delayed or cancelled this summer after air traffic controllers threatened to strike.
Affected dates could be announced on Monday, the Times reported, after workers at Eurocontrol, which manages European airspace, said they would walk out as talks over pay and rotas broke down.
The industrial action could see up to 12,600 flights per day delayed or cancelled across Europe, according to a source quoted by the paper.
“In a full-blown strike 20 to 30 per cent of flights would be at least delayed. They are big numbers,” they said.
It comes after holidaymakers were warned of a “challenging” summer of flight disruptions owing to “overloaded” air traffic control.
Eurocontrol previously said it would experience overloads on most days in key regions including Athens, Budapest, Reims and Marseille, with similar warnings issued for peak days – especially Fridays and weekends – in London, Brussels, Barcelona, Zagreb, Nicosia and Warsaw.
Eurocontrol has forecasted that around 33,000 flights will be made each day from July to mid-August, an increase of more than 7 per cent compared with the same period last year.
---
It will be internal flights that would be most affected if this goes ahead, so perhaps pilgrims from outside Europe should consider travelling on from their airport of first arrival by train or something just to be safe ?
