You can renew for 3 years and it will be 5 euros per year (or it was when we renewed last summer).
 
Many thanks, that was the discount card I was thinking about, just could not remember its name :) In my search, I also uncovered a 15% discount (maybe one time?) that Alsa bus offers :) called ALSA PLUS and registered for it - just to let you know. Fondly sandi, already in that wonderful 'anticipation' mode, even though date of departure is not until mid September, Norte.
