My wife & I are hiking the Le Puy en Velay, May of 2024. With the choices of transportation from SJPP, what major airport would be our best/ eariest to fly out of, for a return to Boston?

Also, we just finished the Via Francigena. How does the elevation/hills compare between Via Francigena & the Le Puy en Velay?
Thank you for your assistance.

I recommend a flight out of Biarritz with a connection in Paris and then on to Logan Airport. If you do a search, you will have a lot of options for carriers (Delta, Air France, KLM, etc.).

Jarred, do you know if there is transportation to Biarritz from SJPP? Really appreciate your help, thank you!

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
There are quite few flights from Bordeaux to Boston. Spend the night in Bordeaux, take the tram to the airport in the morning and avoid any connection that goes through CDG, AMS is much easier.

Here is an option for consideration. Get Express Bourricot (shuttle service in SJPP) to drive you to Biarritz Airport. Book a flight to Dublin on Ryan Air and then book onward travel to Boston (with Aer Lingus as an example). I've actually done this several times in reverse.

Ironically, two months ago, I was trying to determine if I could travel from St Jean to Boston in just one day. From St Jean back to Bayonne or Biarritz, you could take the train or arrange with Express Bourricot. Unfortunately you would have to probably pay their full fare as not many people are heading in that direction. From Bayonne or Biarritz you could take the TGV to Paris. Alternately you could fly from Biarritz (or train to Bordeaux) and fly from there. You would probably have to fly via CDG although there might be an option to fly via Amsterdam or Germany. All this depends on the variety of transport and schedules and price you are willing to pay. I ultimately could not travel this summer, and although I could have made it back to Boston in one day, there was no room for delays and schedule changes. If you do one of these options, plan to overnight somewhere and leave time in case of schedule changes, cancellations, and strikes.
