Travel Santiago to Guimarães?

We would like to spend one night in Santiago when we arrive, and the next day take transportation to Guimarães (at a reasonable time, ie. not late at night). Does anyone know the best way to do this? Bus? I know we can take a bus to Porto, and then train, but the times aren't good. We could also take a bus to Porto, and then FlixBus. But since Guimarães is north of Porto, I'd like to find a way to skip going through Porto. Anyone know good options?

If you haven’t already done so, try looking at connections through Braga, which is close to Guimarães, instead of Porto.

You’ll have to connect through somewhere as no bus will take you directly from SdC to Guimarães (a great city to choose to visit BTW - well done!). You’ll have to transfer somewhere: either Braga if by bud or Porto by bus or train. If you haven’t seen Braga, I’d choose that and stay over a night there, if you have the time, but there is only a bus or two a day to there. Use Rome2Rio for this planning, but remember that bus schedules are not posted too far ahead for Spain and Portugal
