Hello all you seasoned European travelers!! I start my Camino from StJPP on April 1st. I am so excited. And also apparently can't make myself leave !! I have added another week to my trip, and want to go to Ireland. Any suggestions on transpo out of Santiago de Compostella to ireland. Then back to Paris or London?

A lot depends on your budget and interests. Quickest and cheapest way to Ireland would be to fly. Plenty of flights from Santiago to Dublin with a change in Madrid, Barcelona or London starting at about 40 euro depending on the day you travel. Try www.kayak.com for options. A very slow and more expensive way would be an Alsa bus from Santiago to London, then Eurolines bus to Ireland. More expensive still but a little quicker would be to travel by train. Probably the most interesting option but slightly more complicated to plan. If you are from outside Europe then you could consider buying a Eurail pass which could cover most of the journey from Spain to Ireland then back to London or Paris. Doesn't cover the Eurostar journey between London and Paris though and that can be very expensive when booked at short notice.

Aena Santiago website shows airlines and destinations. Currently Dublin is listed as a destination by Aer Lingus.

EasyJet and RyanAir are two of several discount airlines that service Dublin, London, and Paris.

From SDC to Dublin direct is served only by Aer Lingus, see:

Aer Lingus fly from Cork and Dublin to Paris and to most London Airports. Ryanair do the same but the airports are slightly different. Belfast has flights via Aer Lingus, EasyJet and Ryanair to all London airports. EasyJet fly Belfast to and Paris CDG.

Spoiled for choice so enjoy.

Check out www.Rome2Rio.com. It's a great site or app. Just plug in start and end points and voila, all sorts of options and ideas. With links to sites for train, bus, plane, even taxi.

Aerlingus operate out of Santiago to Dublin as do Vueling I believe. Ryanair fly Santiago to Stansted London then Easyjet on to Belfast. If you get to Dublin go up to St James church at St James Gate and get them to stamp your credencial. Go around the corner to the Guiness storehouse, tell one of the young people at the door that you want the camino stamp and they will bring you to the head of the queue. However you may want to take the tour in which case join the queue, buy your tickets and ask for your stamp. I know it would be better to have these sellos at the start of your credencial but if in Dublin, dont miss out on them. Dont know where you are from but you can fly from Dublin to just about anywhere. If to the States, you can do all your immigration and customs checks in Dublin airport then step off in the US as if getting off an internal flight

Just a "heads up," that many of the Vueling direct-to-Santiago routes are "summer-ONLY." At other times of the year, you must connect through their Barcelona (BCN) hub. So, be mindful of your travel dates.

Other than that, I find them wonderful to fly.

Good point. I forgot to mention that. Also Aerlingus only operate summertime and a bit of Autumn. Flights finish about the third week in October.

The flights from Santander to Dublin seem to be very cheap with Ryanair at the moment and the bus ride from santiago to santander should not be too long or expensive either. Might be an option for you!!
