I plan to walk the Camino in August 2018
Hi, I am planning to fly into Charles de Gaulle in Paris and then take the train from CDG airport to St Jean. I am traveling alone and this seems like a easy way to get there. Does anybody see anything wrong with this plan?

Welcome to the forum.

There is nothing wrong with your plan at all, lots of pilgrims (including me) take this route. As you are looking at train travel, you can catch one from CDG, but there are many more choices from Montparnasse station, which is in central Paris and not near the airport. Where are you coming from? Have you thought about taking a few days in Paris to get over jet lag? Are you an experienced traveler or is this your first time? I ask, because an experienced traveler knows how their body responds to a long flight, and also has a feel for how long connections should take. Others like to take a flight to BIQ (Biarritz), while still others fly into Madrid and take buses or trains from there. Lots of ways to skin this cat, it matters where you are coming from, and where you can get cheap flights to!

Buen Camino

Welcome to the Camino Forum!
Nothing at all wrong with your plan. There may be challenges depending on your arrival time. For trains going south, the Montparnasse station (Gare Montparnasse is a large train station) has more options to Bayonne than starting at CDG. I typically fly from Los Angeles to CDG, take the direct bus to Montparnasse, stay overnight nearby, then take a morning train from Montparnasse to Bayonne, then the local train to Saint Jean Pied de Port. My overnight in Paris gives me time to adjust and enjoy a very charming section of Paris.

Buen Camino!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Your travel plans should go without a hitch assuming the rail strikes in France end by then.
