Treat needed in Leon

I will be meeting up with my husband mid September in Leon during my walk and it will be his birthday. We have treated ourselves to a night in the Parador but I would welcome advice on somewhere special to have dinner. Neither of us will have any smart gear so no swanky places!! Also he will have been cycling in the Picos and I will have walked for 19 days so if anyone knows where you can get a good sports massage I'd love that info too. Thanks.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Can't help you on supper, do take the tour at San Isodoro! The 1000 year old frescos are amazing - a real treat!

Why not also dine in Leon at the parador San Marcos? Much of today's sumptuous riverside complex was built to house the Knights of Saint James in the 16th century and many public spaces are very handsome. Since you will be residents neither obtaining a table nor dress code should be a problem. Their unique cloister garden adjacent to the reception area is splendid.

Do follow Scruffy's advice and visit San Isodoro where the 11th century walls and low ceiling are covered with Romanesque frescoes in muted tones; the biblical figures are weighty and outlined in a nervous black line. All is memorable.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Thanks for he advice. Will definitely visit San Isadoro. As this will be my only rest day I shall make the most of it and try to see as much as I can.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
The Parador in Leon is quite a walk from the city centre, where most of the restaurants are located. Why not stay at La Posada Regia, nearer to the cathedral. Very historic and atmospheric. Because you will probably be dining at the Spanish hour of 9.00 p.m., you will not want to be too far away from your bed!

The Parador in Leon remains one of the highlights of all my Caminos - not so much for the swanky room (although that was devine enough) but for the wonderful way we were treated when the staff knew we were "genuine" unsupported walkers, the amazing historic building, the beautiful courtyard and public rooms, and the superb buffet breakfast - which we honoured by eating for several hours (had walked 36+ km the day before).

Admittedly it is a few blocks to the cathedral, but only a few blocks - nothing to a Camino walker! It's my favourite cathedral, simple in comparison to Santiago and Burgos, but with windows of light, reaching to heaven. A thin place. San Isidore, as mentioned. Also do try "limonada Casera", and excellent empanadas!

Love, love, love Leon.

I am getting very excited having read all the replies and. Kanga your enthusiasm is encouraging me! BTW I soaked my silk liner in Yates permethrin today and it looks fine but now the next to the skin test later to make sure there are no bad consequences!!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
Let me know how you go with the Yates permethrin....

David gives a great massage. He is located next to a pharmacy on the way in. There is a sandwich board on the sidewalk. His website is mesajescaminodesantiago.com. I was a wreck when I visited him. My feet had infected blisters. He is calm and patient and really helped me!

Thank you. I will look out for him on the way in and pass that info to my husband too.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Let me know how you go with the Yates permethrin....
I soaked the liner in the Yates permethrin diluted as you would to spray your trees, wrung it out and let it air dry. I have sat in front of the fire for a while with it wrapped around my arms and can honestly say it doesn't smell and it hasn't had any effect on my arms. I think I will soak my pack and air dry that too once I can actually hang anything outside- we have a big storm going thru Margaret River and it seems to have rained for days.

I can't help you with dinner but if you're looking for a super place for lunch walk down on the left of the cathedral and then take an immediate left. About 100m down is the Cocina del Cardinal.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Why not stay in the Hotel Paris, its only about 100mts from the Cathedral and is not over the top expensive, they also have a full spa attached to the hotel. Loads of the people I walked with in 2012 stayed there and loved it. You will find it on Google.

I stayed in the Paris Hotel in 2012 for 2 nights. It was a welcome rest day. I slept like a log. Flowers in the window box...beautiful!
