My wife and I will be walking the Camino Portugues in a few months. I have walked the Camino Frances last summer. What are the things that are different about it that I should know.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The main thing is the language and the food. Be sure to eat at least one 'pastel de nata' everyday :) Are you starting in Lisbon?

I spent a few days in Lisbon then took a train to Santarem where I started. The group I bonded with convinced me to spend a rest day in Tomar and Coimbra, something I never did on the CF. Both towns were wonderful. From Porto I took the metro to Matosinhos then walked the coastal boardwalk to Vila do Conde then inland via Rates to Barcelos and on to Tui and Santiago. Walking into CdS from the south was totally different than the pilgrim parade that enters from the east on the CF. The Portuguese people are delightful and very helpful. I understand some Spanish. When reading Portuguese words I usually felt just Spanish dyslexic but often understood. When hearing Portuguese I had no idea what was going on.

Jayree,

I had to laugh when I read your above comment about being Spanish dyslexic. My wife and I were just talking about doing the Portuguese route and I said the same about the language there. I guess we may have to brush up on the language. Either way Bueno Camino !

Have walked both, (although the portuguese from Porto, not Lisbon. Big difference, there are less stops and less Albergues, but the the national ones in Portugal are new and very good. Also, the highest point is 400m so no big mountains like the Francs

Take a little more water and food as you could go half a day with out a place to stop. (and longer between Lisbon and Porto.

I loved the walk and found it a lot quieter, but still with its own charm

My wife and I walked the Portuguese from Porto in 2015 for our honeymoon. If you're looking for romance in a dorm full of snoring pilgrims whilst sleeping in separate bunk beds. . . forget it!! lol

My wife did the French in 2013 before we were married and in fact I'd only known her 6 days before she was off for nearly 5 weeks. She did however tell me that after we'd done the Portuguese Way it was definitely a lot quieter in numbers and it felt more peaceful and less hustle and bustle.
