Hello,

To those of you who have walked the Le Puy in October, can you tell me what the weather might be like? I'll be starting on 18th October and walking for one week.

Thanks,

Paul

I have not walked it that late in the year, but hazard a guess that you could get pretty cold weather on the Aubrac.

the Le Puy in October
You've got three issues in that time-frame> First, it's shoulder season, so weather will fluctuate between fine, sunny fall days and miserable chilly rain, with the possibility of a few snowflakes towards the end while still at elevation.

Second, there is a two-week mid-term school break in that part of France starting mid-October. If Madame/Monsieur have no reservations booked, they may go visit the grandkids, even if MMD says they plan to be open. So book ahead.

Third, many lodgings will close for the season on All Saints (Nov 1) -- and you notice how that abuts the aforementioned school holiday ...

So plan several days ahead, and pack for chill rain, in the hope that you won't need it many days. And use any of the many weather apps on your smartphone to get a ten-day forecast.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi Paul

My wife and I are heading out from Le Puy on the 18th as well for three weeks. Have had lots of advice. Basically pack with layers for the likely few cold days, a poncho for the wet ones, and enjoy whatever good or challenging weather that might happen. See you on the trail.

I am just back from completing the Geneva route into Le Puy. The weather has already turned: near freezing at night and some days of sideways rain. Still quite a few pilgrims encountered in Le Puy.
