Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2019

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I was out fairly early this morning and was struck by the contrast between the cries of the seagulls and the lights in the Financial Services buildings. Which of the two make the world go round? Our natural world, or our contrived world? I couldn't upload the short video so you will just have to imagine the cries of the gulls. Had my knee injection so maybe won't be walking for a few days, but sincerely hope to have something worth posting soon!

It is a bit dark here at the moment at daytime. Sun beiing back over the horizon around January 20. Too little snow for skiing at the moment, but still a walkingpath to my local hill! Happy new year everyone!

Such lovely photos! and in them, the author is smiling through! Glad I looked at this on my laptop, as the snow seems to be quite at home falling on your photos. Usually I just shiver when I see that snow...

Almost perfect cloudless morning up here on the Scottish border; woken up at 6 by surprisingly bright tiny slither of dying moon with Venus in close pursuit. Still short days up here (sunrise-sunset 8.34-15.53, compared to Santiago's 9.05-18.10) so up the fell with the hound as soon as possible, 300m of ascent in the first 3km from my front door, and no tarmac. The main thing I miss on the camino is my vizsla.

A question: How can I manage to see all of a photo? On my iPad I often have to just give up, and the previous post has a photo I would love to see properly. Any ideas?

On the (half) photo you see, look for the symbols that come and go in the top right hand corner .. the square with the arrow is the second from the left (I think ) ... touch it and a new tab will open with the photograph ...

@kirkie
Edit: I’ve sent you a PM ... it’s a lot ‘clearer’ than the above!

That is really beautiful Kanga. Where is it? Your front yard?

It still feels a bit empty, almost echoing here.. Like I am a bit lost and NOT at home, in my virtual albergue. Where are you all? Shall I send out a search party? Elephant? Mouse? Anyone? Maybe I have to go out in the garden to look in the cherrytree?

Collingwood Beach, Jervis Bay. Best spot on earth! And yes, the front yard - of a family beach house in which we stay each year.

I ❤ it! Congratulations to you and your family to have access to a bit of paradise on earth!

I didn't take any pictures on my last walk, it is so grey and NOT so seneric here right now.. Maybe I will do that today..

This is one I took on Monday morning en route to getting the jab in my knee that has meant house imprisonment. Free tomorrow so hope it will be a nice day...

For interest, I usually attach screenshots but this is a photo plain and simple, so I will check when I have posted if there is a difference in how it shows up on ipad. The photo was taken around 8am, facing south across the River Liffey.

Thx. Just tried it on @Kanga’s picture and it works!!

Didn't take a lot of photos during my walks lately, but I had to snap this one on the latest 'expedition' with my wife. We were in the province of North Holland and about to have dinner in a castle.

Did a 30km mountain hike. It took me 11 hours (including 1 hour on the peak) to go up and then down 1300m. It was an awesome and beautiful walk, on which trekking poles did a miracle for my stability and knees, particularly downhill. Now, I still fell twice on a steep section of the icy trail where I averaged 1km/h, but I slided at least half dozen times.

For some reason i can't upload photos.

With the holidays over, and the fireworks no longer an issue, I finally got out walking in the afternoon instead of the evening, and could enjoy the farm roads that edge our villages. Free at last!

Walked the “Cuillcagh” in Co Fermanagh, Ireland. It’s over natural and preserved bog, a good 10k, famous for the boardwalk part.

At last a day when it was possible to take a walk in the neighborhood without getting wet and cold... we had a little snow before Christmas but on Christmas Eve it started to rain heavily and since then it has been plenty of rain, sleet, strong wind and fog. But today a little snow again and a hope of seeing the sun again. The sun is hidden behind the mountains for six weeks.

*where* doesn’t matter. What has been significant is that another forum member invited me out for a walk. And then we bumped into each other this morning. And we’re meeting at 6:55am tomorrow. As well as all that, she invited another couple who turned out to live a few houses away from me and I’ve bumped into them out walking twice in two days as well!

The coastal walk at Torrelamata Costa Blanca a 10k round trip. One of our favourite daily walks. Especially at this time of the year when the temperature is just right and the tourists are thin on the ground.
Wherever your walking today enjoy.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
This year: once a week 'round my home-hill "Gehrdener Berg", 11km / 1:55h, mild up and downs.
Last year: several times to the "Brocken" in the Harz-Mountains. From Schierke on the "Eckerloch-trail" 5.5km / 500m ascent / best time 1:28h or from Torfhaus via the "Goetheweg" 9km / 350m ascent / 2:34h.
Have a look at: Nationalpark-Website.

At the moment both trails are closed due to the weather and heavy snowfalls. Will be reopened from tomorrow / sunday (hopefully).

This was a week-and-a-half ago now but I forgot to post it then. It was a 15km hills-to-coast walk in the Sintra-Cascais National Park at the western-most point of Portugal and continental Europe.

And yesterday morning I walked from central Lisbon to Belém (about 6km) and went into the Jerónimos monastery for the first time in years.

What a lovely collection of photos you all have! These are from my “local “ walk ( part of the Hebridean Way) a couple of days ago. I walk it so often but never tire of it.

After an abnormally mild and dry February, today we got a rather brutal reminder that spring is still a fair way from the Scottish border.

Hi Alansykes
A bit warmer here in the south, and good weather yesterday ..cool but no rain
Yesterday we walked part of the London Loop

It's a 150 mile loop around London but within the M25 motorway
It follows a green corridor right around the capital and....mostly keeps to the green areas
There are 15 sections in all and so fat we've walked 10 of them
The good thing also, is that as oldies....sorry...seniors...travel is free to all the start and finishing points of rail or tube stations

This section was supposed to be about 18.5 km ....supposed to be!!

Started off at Moor Park on a lovely bright morning
Then it was mostly through parks, woods, fields, and country parks with lakes and a tiny bit of road walking
Only 1 cafe and pub the whole way however!

The scenery was lovely and amazing in itself that we were only spitting distance from the metropolis....80% of the Loop is like this
The whole route is so well marked too

Half way, we took a short cut...short cut!!
Didn't work and we went the wrong way....and back again
Couldn't find a short cut to the short cut!

Charlie said.."we're never taking one of your short cuts again as they always turn into a long cut!! ........point taken.

At about 5km to go and 22km later and just about to cross another field, I spotted a bus.......A BUS!! ....
That's it....I'm getting on this bus ....never so glad to see a bus God bless em!
Took us to the station of Elstree.......where they make the movies in the UK I think ...you know the ....Lights...Camera....Action stuff.
A nice easy journey home then
Whole walk was about 6.5 hours ....would have been quicker but for the short cut!
Well do another section another day soon
Hope I can get some photos on for this

how coldly (!) lovely! thank you, Alan. last week, some people thought Spring had come to Dublin. Hah! think again!
The snow melted almost as soon as it came, sending an awful lot of water down the river Gelt, which is 2-3 feet higher than usual today. My dog and I often like to swim in the pool by this waterfall, but perhaps not today

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
Good that someone has good sense, @alansykes. I always listen to a good dog when he or she says "Not today, thanks." (Wonderful pics, as usual!)

I've had only a little time to walk, besides the usual evening exercise, which is hardly photogenic.
But it's lovely to see everyone's rambles.

A few weeks ago we went up the road with the neighbors to see the blooming cherry trees, which are pretty unusual here. And the youngest person in the party promptly ran up the tree to pic flowers (obviously this is not Japan!)

Due to heavy snowfall accompanied by heavy wind it was only a short walk in the woods with the dog today ... no photos taken as it was not much light actually. But an overnight tour is planned sometime the coming days. That would be on skis.
Hopefully it will be a bit warmer then. The last night out was a couple of days ago ... -28°C (see picture)

Me too.
Snow here would be the sign of climate Armageddon....
My walk today was smokey. There are fires all around us, set by people to clear weeds, and they get out of hand. No-one thinks it's in any way unusual or bad - it's the way things are done and have been since forever.
Human beings and our slash and burn mentality...sigh...

Still enjoying this thread a lot! But it's been too long since I contributed, partly because my walks aren't all that local the last couple of months. Like last week: me and my son spent 5 days abroad (as a gift to him for reaching his 18th birthday and his high school diploma). We logged more than 100 km walking through our destination, but I am cheating a little by posting this pic as it was hardly local (for us).

Not without its share of mud, I see.
Here an early morning walk to a nearby pagoda, past fields of banana trees and flowers for cutting. It's getting increasingly hot, so I haven't been walking much after about 9.
