Wiring money question

I need to wire money to my son who is currently on the camino. Does anyone know where the closest Western Union to the Compostela would be? There are about 15 locations on the western union site. Thanks.

Hi there, hope everything is ok with your son.

All of the bigger cities are listed with Western Union, and many of the smaller towns as well. It really depends where your son is at the moment and where he thinks he'll be able to find a location during opening hours.

Here is a list of nearly all cities along the main Camino route: http://www.jacobeo.net/etapas/index.htm

Once he tells you where he will be, search here for a corresponding location here using the Find Agent Location link here:
http://www.westernunion.com/info/homePa ... ion=global

This should get you started, good luck!

Thanks for your responses. There is no emergency other than by the end of his pilgrimage he will be very low on funds. I don't know which refugio he will be at when he arrives that's why I just said the closest to the Compostela as I know he will be going to the cathedral for the pilgrim's Mass. When I was on the Western Union site, and put in Santiago de Compestela, about 15 locations popped up. He will be arriving there next Tuesday, so I have time.

Hi there,

I had a look at the list of agents in Santiago.

The one below is a bank (the only bank on the list. I like banks for these kind of services since you know that they are serious) and is located in the new part of Santiago. About 5 minute walk from old town. Note: Only open until 2.00pm on workdays.

If he wants more flexibility, then try...

They are open from 10.00am until 10.00pm Monday through Saturday, but it is located about 20 minute walk from old town. He should ask for directions... ask for "El Corte Ingles Hipercor", there is post office on the lower floor (Correos).

I hope this helps... he is lucky having someone at home with some extra funds

Greetings from Santiago,
Ivar

Hi Again,

Thanks for your suggestions. I am trying to locate the Caja Espana on a map of the Compostela area, and can't seem to find it. Where is the new part of town in relation to the cathedral? Thanks for your help.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Hi again,

Sorry for not answering earlier, I am visiting Norway these days so internet access is not as frequent.

Caja Espana is the name on the bank and not a street. The street is "GENERAL PARDINAS 6" it is well known and if he writes it down and show it to a local, they will start pointing... 100% sure. He will have no problem.

If I remember correctly he arrived yesterday, so he might already have found his way.

Greetings from Norway,
Ivar

Hello Ivar,

Since you wrote last, I was able to search for banks under businesses via google. Caja Espana on General Pardinas came up, and I was able to pinpoint the location. For some reason when I googled the address feature it wasn't recognized. Anyway, I will wire the funds today - my son doesn't arrive until Tuesday. Thanks so much for your help.

Just in case anyone's interested, when wiring money via Western Union from the U.S. to Spain, the recipient can pick it up at any any Western Union location. This may be true of other countries too. I have never wired money overseas before, but thought this might be helpful information.

I was wondering about that, thanks for the information.

This means that you just need to look for the Western Union -sticker in a window, or look for the post office (I think most of them are Western Union locations as well).

Thanks again,
Ivar
